Corel has had a long history with screwing the the 'New from Template' dialog, and making it way more difficult to add your own templates. 1) I do not use those pre-canned templates. 2) I create and use lots of my own. 3) this newest incarnation of the' New from Template' dialog makes management impossible.
OS is Win7 64-bit Ultimate. Drawings are in custom library '\users \jonathan\drawings' with templates in \users '\jonathan\drawing\My Templates' and library is indexed.
Something happened where nearly every time (9 of ot 10) I would open the 'New from Template' dialog CD would crash to the desktop.
Faulting application name: CorelDRW.exe, version: 15.2.0.695, time stamp: 0x4e52a655Faulting module name: CdrRip.dll, version: 15.2.0.695, time stamp: 0x4e52aa44Exception code: 0xc0000005Fault offset: 0x0002b08bFaulting process id: 0x%9Faulting application start time: 0x%10Faulting application path: %11Faulting module path: %12Report Id: %13
So I bit the bullet and uninstall it and reinstalled it.
First problem was I when through ALL the setup options and DESELECTED installing all those profession templates. After the install, and the service patches, and the hotfix fired up CDR and I have ALL those damn profession templates! Complete with the international UK stuff. And mu custom templates where not found. So I started recreating them by opening each and saving at CDT. Now I set custom types such as 'GUI graphics' , 'Art Print', etc. I confirmed that the custom types were set in the CDT. If you unzip them the /metadata/metadata.xml with have <type>GUI graphics</type> but when they would finally appear in the 'New from Template' dialog they would be under a very "useful and intuitive" type category "c6bf3282-449d-45f4-9dbf-4e57593fe60b"! Where did c6bf3282-449d-45f4-9dbf-4e57593fe60b" come from? Checking the "%APPDATA%\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5\Custom Data\TemplateProperties.xml" I find these entries:
...
<itemData type="statusText" guid="postcard"/><itemData type="statusText" guid="poster"/><itemData type="statusText" guid="020835e6-4789-4573-8322-50cd9c9f023b" text="c6bf3282-449d-45f4-9dbf-4e57593fe60b"/><itemData type="statusText" guid="99227fe5-bff0-4a39-a618-3593783d04a6" text="f6942807-ccf5-4ebf-8e2d-c58c371a7d05"/>...
None of these GUIDs are in the registry.
So in order of need.
1) How to get rid of all those pre-canned templates UK Daycare and crap.
2) How to have ONLY my templates with MY type categories
3) Is there some kind of template manager, if not info on how to do it manually
4) Where did all those GUIDs come from hand where are the referenced and stored?
In the old days you could add your templates directly into the dialog, then you had to create a 'special' tab, then there was a 'browse' tab that pointed to a local folder I think that was CDR11, and now this garbage. Sorry for the rant, but been frustrated getting this to work.

BUMP! No one else has this problem?
I just created a new 3-UP DVD Label template and selected "Label" from the available categories when saving as template and it is now under the "user-friendly" category 020835e6-4789-4573-8322-50cd9c9f023b. Really? How is this useful? If you sort by type "Label" or "020835e6-4789-4573-8322-50cd9c9f023b" I get "There is no matching templates"
Browse button & dialog is still there - i.e. you can store your templates in your folder/s and then open them.
When your templates are stored into default folder with pre-canned templates folder you will see them on the list (wait few seconds when list updated); tested here X5 15.2.0.695 on XP Pro & WIN7 – see below
Mek
I did exactly as you did but instead of my values for type and industry which I entered into the field under other some GUID like 02ffe37f-88bb-4d9b-a405-c9e58b15b5c2 . A number of things were strange. I have reinstalled CGS several times to try to fix. This last time I hunted down and UNCHECKED the option to install the Professional Templates, but end up with them all!Fixed that by deleting all under C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5\Custom Data\Templates and C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5\Languages\EN\Custom Data\Templates.
Next I found I had to remove any older version templates. I have used CD since version 4 and it seems that any older versions templates can get indexed but can cause the Template Dialog box to crash. I had some ver 11 and ver X3 templates that I hadn't updated yet. Once removed stopped the Template Dialog box from crashing.
Next as I said I would enter my own values when creating template, but auto-generated GUIDs would be substitute. If I opened up the CDT (I use WinRar) the metatdata.xml inside would have this GUID instead of my custom type and industry. I had to manually edit to fix. I am in the process of converting and updating all my templates.
I did notice something odd however, my custom values are now in the Template Dialog and the templates are grouped correct by them, but you can not filter by the values.
But if I filter on that value:
No a huge problem, but curious.
Try save your templates to
Delete file TemplateProperties.xml from following location C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 Then open CorelDraw. Mek
Delete file TemplateProperties.xml from following location
C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5
Then open CorelDraw.
On Windows 7 that file is not under the Program Files hierarchy but under %APPDATA%\ Roaming\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5\Custom Data\
Windows 7 restricts writing to \ Program Files and \ Program Files (x86) hierarchies and is redirected to either \ProgramData or under user profile %APPDATA%\ something that should have been the rule long ago. Something Linux does right!
Deleting that file caused CDR to crash when trying to upon the New From Template dialog. I found I had to edit the file instead and remove the bad entries....like this one
<itemData type="statusText" guid="79319ae0-588b-4a8e-b5d7-c95812e5f81f" text="8aad0265-91da-426b-b190-bf7a5350967d"/>
