I have a template that is basically a rectangle with curved edges. It is a template to design cell phone covers. I want to fill half of the object with a solid color and half of the object with a chevron pattern. How do I make the template two objects instead of just one.
Hello nlrock; I would draw a line where I wanted to divide the object and trim it.
George
Some more options than what George suggested :1) You may use Knife tool to cut the object in parts. Check for options (a) Keep as one object (b) Auto close on cut on property bar when knife is tool selected.2) Draw a line intersecting the object you want to cut. Use Smart fill tool to click within the enclosed areas to get a new object.
There will also be another but a bit longer way to add and break apart nodes, if you prefer.
(I got in on this topic a little late...) I like to use the trim tool for projects like this, because it gives you complete control over the trim shape. Also if you trim an object and then use that object to trim another object it results in perfect registration.
Great Thanks......I will play around with it and see how it works.
One more question. If I have say a solid box and I want to round the corners on the top but not the bottom, how would I do it?
Thanks,
Nancy

Use the "Shape Tool" and select just the corners that need rounding. They will look like large black nodes and can be individually selected.
