New to CorelDraw and im sure this is a very simple question for most but I cant figure it out.
I am trying to make a file to use on a plotter/cutter, If I start by making a word then go to "effect", "contour" and make a background for the text then go to "object", "break contour group apart", then I export, save as or publish to .pdf file I get the following when I open it in the cutter program to cut.
1. PDF when I look at it as a thumbnail it looks great but if I open the file with the cutter program there is nothing there or its just the black text and not the red background.
Anyone that can tell me what i'm doing wrong?
Usually, cutting software needs you to use a spot colour such as cutcontour which the software will recognise, to distinguish it from the objects which are to be printed.
Next, you must check the PDF settings and make sure you have a combination which preserves that spot colour, rather than converting it to rgb or cmyk.
There are several signmakers who do cutting regularly, so if you can give them details of your cutting software they will probably be able to help better.
Yea Larry, us sign designers would like to know what the "cut" program is. We use both Omega and FineCut Pro 8. We don't use pdf's for them though. Always eps.
Have you actually tried plotting anything because plotters don't need color at all? You're just plotting the outline.

Hello Larry B; What I Do is after getting the file the way I want it, using a outline the same color as the fill, I duplicate it then remove the fill and brake the file apart and convert to curves group it. And then export the out lined file to the cutting program as needed. I cut out of CorelDRAW so I don't have to export the files anymore. But I do save both drawings, the first incase I need to edit it and the other incase I need to cut it again.
Good Luck in the Sign Business, George
Larry if what you are after to cut is like the screen shot below, You can send me a email and I'll send you the PDF & CDR file.
