CorelDraw on its final leg!

For a while now I have been trying to convince myself that the powers that be would turn this program around and once more be the great program it was. Way back then, Illustrator couldn't even compare! Now, it looks that I will have to jump ship and go to bed with whom at one point was "The Enemy".

With update 4 Corel has given its once flagship program the "coup de grace". Working with Corel since version 5, never had a version so buggy to the point of rendering it worthless! Crashes so often that it becomes unbearable. Features like Fit Text To Path are now worthless to a professional user now, among others more.

Obviously, Corel do not care and will not cater to customer like us. The company seems to be geared towards creating gimmicky features that bring nothing to the program other than make it buggy.

I will keep lurking the forums once in a while and if (nothing short of a miracle happens), if I ever hear anything good about improvements to the program, I may come back. I know Corel don't give a hoot about my 200 upgrade dollars but at least I got this off my chest and who knows, if enough of us paying customers start exiting; perhaps somebody will listen!!!

It's funny that people often blame Corel for being responsable for the 'buggy' issues. It's as if the people who complain always think they're working with a perfect flawless computer. Windows works with darn common files. Has anybody ever thought of that? These common files might be responsable for the bugs. How long has your computer been formatted. Temp files? Registry? It's like complaining to your car dealer that your car rattles and shakes but you're always drinving on a cracked and beat up pavement.

Unfortunately computers are sold without any instructions on how to keep it tidied up.

My CorelDRAW isn't perfect, but it's never as buggy as described by the people who complain about it. Are your computers up to date? And I mean, in every way? Not just Windows Updates. Are your machines strong enough? Are you running with small dual core processors? Not enough RAM? I'd recommend going way further than the minimum recommendations written on the box! Of course CorelDRAW will open, but heck, help it out a little bit. It's like pulling a 5000lbs trailer with a small 6 cylinder Toyota Tacoma! It'll do it, but boy, it'll find the ride to be pretty rough.

Also, you can't expect Corel techs to program YOUR ONE AND ONLY CorelDRAW version adapted to fit YOUR computer alongside all the other programs you have installed. They do their best to reproduce every problem everyone comes up with. If Corel's computers don't have any problems because they don't have so many other 'personnal' program causing possible conflicts, it's pretty hard for them to fix the concerned issues.

Bottom line: I listened to you, and I'm not in agreement with you, sorry. If you think the 'Enemy' is better, go right ahead. Pay the price. Check out forums with issues and bugs on Illustrator. I think you'll be much more p*ssed off paying much more for a software that also has many bugs.

I remember when Illustrator was just pathetic compared to CorelDRAW. That was back when Illustrator for Windows was stuck at version 4 for years while the Mac platform got versions 5, 5.5 and 6 exclusively. Then Adobe must have seen how CorelDRAW was adding great new features rapidly and also probably saw how their 1990's arch rival Freehand was growing its user base on Windows. Adobe started to get with the program with version 7. But Adobe has been slow to add certain drawing features that have been standard in CorelDRAW for 15 or 20 years.

With regards to bugs, stability, user friendliness, etc. CorelDRAW X7 definitely needs some improvement. I've had some issues (not a lot, but enough to find very annoying) with X7 on my computer and this is with a fresh, clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my Dell XPS notebook. I had Corel X5 running on the previous installation, but decided to get X7 to test it. My office PC and a co-worker's PC are running X6. Anyway, my X7 installation is not running as smoothly as X5 did. So there is definitely something amiss.

With regard to bugs in Adobe applications, yes, some of the Creative Cloud applications have had some bugs. However, Illustrator hasn't been one of the bigger offenders in terms of CC 2014 applications. Adobe has usually been pretty good at providing updates to fix bugs as well as add new features.

I still use CorelDRAW extensively in my work despite also having Adobe Creative Cloud. But it's not too much to ask to expect Corel's executives and developers to fix known bugs and do other things to make CorelDRAW a better application in the future. I strongly believe they need to try selling CorelDRAW on the Mac platform again. Adobe doesn't have much credible competition other than a couple cheap drawing applications sold in the Apple store. It's not the same hostile situation Corel faced when they tried selling version 11 on the Mac platform a decade ago.

Stephan,
I was not going to reply because when I posted I was expecting your kind of reply but since your remarks about blaming the computer and not the program are completely wrong. No doubt that there are users that do not know the program and are not computer savvy enough to have problems and blame the program. But in my case and other professional users that frequent this community, please do not demean us and put us in the same basket. This time around and I'm referring to update 4 specifically, Corel has become buggy, unstable to the point that is very hard to be productive at work. Not everybody do the type of work that some of us do and these type of problems are not a deal breaker.
Thanks for your reply and who knows; Corel may surprise us and honestly approach and fix these application problems!

The experience I have with CorelDRAW is just fine with me. Corel ALWAYS has had issues with EVERY version. For me, the 10th version was awful, with CorelARM (real joke). I think like most other programs of ANY kind! All developpers have to keep in pace with all the other competition on the market.

Here, in this forum, we notice people speaking out their problems. How many people does that represent? On thousands and thousands of copies sold throughout the world, if only 25 people have ONE same issue compared to 5000 having another problem, I think the technicians at Corel will attack the bigger issue. And another thing, how many people are SATISFIED with the program? Do you understand where I'm headed with this? I think if your issues are outnumbered by others, yours might never be solved or, if so, it might be only in the next version.

I'm a freelance graphic designer. If I have many clients that are satisfied with my services and I have another that keeps complaining, is never satisfied with small details (in my opinion), always says that I'm not professionnal, keeps menacing me of leaving... Even though I try my best to satisfy him, I think I'll let him leave!

HEY! ON ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW...

Did you ever think that it might be Corel's actual intention to put out a defective program on the market so that you absolutely have to connect on-line to download fixes? All this to protect the program from piracy? Just sayin'.
