knife tool - I hate it. How can it control exactly where it cuts. For instance a rectangle needs to have a 45 degree corner cut off. I used to be able to hold down the contol key and it would snap into corner then cut exactly what
In order to achieve what you describe, there are a couple things that you need to do:First of all, to make Ctrl constrain to a 45 degree angle it must be set to 45 degrees (or some value that can be 45 when multiplied, like 15 for example), in Options > Workspace > Edit. Then, Snap to Objects must be enabled, to make sure the cut will start exactly at the corner node of the rectangle.I would also suggest you use the 2-point Line mode in Property Bar.Bézier works too but there is a bug that makes it difficult to start with a single click to create a straight line in that mode.Try this and let us know how it goes.
I illustrated 14 books using the knife tool to show how a rotary cutter would work on a shape. It was so easy to use in versions before X8. I have found it easier to make a triangle shape and place it on a desired other shape and use the trim tool. Why would they take a tool that was so easy to use and complicate things?
This is a tool that I don't use much myself, not because I find it bad or so, simply because I am used to do these things with the Shaping commands, like Trim that you mention.Anyway, the enhanced Knife that came some versions ago works pretty much the same as the old one but has some additional features. What exactly is it that you find better with the old one?I personally think the new one is a lot better and easier to use, since we no longer have to click exactly on the outline to start and end the cut, for example. Being able to cut several objects in one shot is also very useful.
