converting an image to cmyk bitmap increases its initial size. it's happening in corel x4 only.... is this a bug?
It is not only in X4. CMYK will always be bigger than RGB encoding. You get a wider range of colour using CMYK. CMYK is 32 bit where RGB only goes up to 24 bit, resulting in a bigger file.
i was not referring at the file size. i was referring at the bitmap dimensions in mm.
Dimensions will change according to the settings you selected in the output window and the dpi of the file.
You can select the "Maintain the Original Size" option or change the units to pixels to see what the output size will be in pixels (if that is not your default units) and then change it accordingly.
you don't seem to understand what i`m sayin
so,.. take a rgb bitmap for example, import it in corel
so its initial size it's let's say... 70x100 mm ok? now convert that to a 300 DPI CMYK bitmap, it automatically sizes up to 70,08 x 100,08 mm
if you convert it to a 100 DPI CMYK bitmap, it gets 0.25 mm bigger
if you convert it to a 200 DPI CMYK bitmap, it gets 0.13 mm bigger
if you convert it to a 600 DPI CMYK bitmap, it gets 0.04 mm bigger
and so on, with every converting step it gets bigger and bigger. same with converting to grayscale. i think it's a bug 'cause in x3 and 12 this doesn't happen
it's really annoying when you have to have everything exactly precise and aligned/centered.. if you know what i mean
later edit: i think it has to do with antialias because if i turn that off in converting to bmp window, it doesn't get bigger... but it gets pixelated
Okay, sorry, misunderstood you. I see what you mean.
It also seems as if the quality on screen has declined - the edges looks very pixelated even at more than a thousand dpi's. Try converting a circle or something to bitmap to see. Maybe this is why the image is getting bigger (the pixelation at the edges)?
Also can't seem to find anything in Options that would suggest this is something you can change...
