Type 1 fonts

I have never really got it straight how to 'install' Type One fonts under Windows, especially when I want to use them with FontNav. Should the pairs be kept together within the same folder? I tend to use multiple sets of folders for other font types to aid me in organizing them within FontNav, and I love FontNav for its ability to make fonts active or inactive.

  • You may (not) want to know that under Win 7, FontNav does not handle
Type 1 fonts at all -- cannot install them itself; cannot install them
on the fly either. Under Win 7 the only way to install Type 1 fonts is
by Windows itself or under a font manager other than BFN.

I suppose the better news is that under Win 7 64 bit anyway, the system
doesn't seem to care how many fonts you have installed. I recently went
from XP to Win 7 64 and, in order to get anything done at all, had to
hastily activate ALL my extensive font library in addition to what Win-7
had done, so it now lists 1,068 installed fonts (yikes!!) and no adverse
effects! Mix of Type 1, Opentype, TTF and even TTC (collection).
Needless to say I will pure these down over time, but only because the
list is rather lengthy! (going from XP to Win 7, Willy Gates extracts
revenge from those who dared to not use Vista so ALL user installed
fonts are not installed---hence after about the 25th time a font was not
available. on a rush job, I gave up and installed everything!)

I think the PFM and the PFB have to be in the same directory, especially
    under Win 7.
