Hi,
last week I purchased and installed CorelDraw X4. After I had watched the video tutorials I wanted to try out the preview function in the Windows Explorer which should work with Vista and Windows 7. A double click starts Corel X4 properly, but the preview or the thumbnail function doesn't work (message "no preview available"). Curiously the Corel paint Fotos work in the preview pane. Only cdr-files aren't previewed.
In the scrapbook the cdr files are displayed correctly.
Does anyone has an idea how to activate this preview function?
I thank you very much from German!

Hey Gonzo
I had EXACTLY the same problem, I just fixed it!!!
Try this and let me know how you go cause it just worked for me:
1. Go to your Control Panel then PROGRAMS AND FEATURES (ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS)
2. Select CorelDraw X4 (or whatever version you have) and click
3. Select Modify from Corel's uninstall options window
4. Scroll down to UTILITIES you should notice your "windows shell extension' box un-ticked, go ahead and tick it . Then run thru the rest of the process until it's done. That's it!
That did the trick for me!
Good Luck buddy!
I recently updated to Windows 7, and I use Corel Draw 10, which I had to troubleshoot compatibility to have it open as if I had Windows 95, because Windows 7 wouldn't let me use my program.
The thumbnails previews didn't work when I had Vista, either, and trying your method, I'm not getting a "modify" option. It only wants to "uninstall". What's next, please? Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Mickey Ray
I may be wrong, but I'm not sure CorelDraw 10 supported CDR thumbnails.
Wow, that's a bummer! No offense, but I hope you're wrong!
Hi.
I don't think thumbnails through shell extension was included until v12.
You can use free romCAT to view them.

Thanks for the tip! I've just downloaded ST Thumbnail explorer and it's a shareware program. It displayed all the Corel .cdr files perfectly.
I went to that romCAT page and I guess you have to register as a shopper before you can download that file.
HI.
I've tried that one.
Works well.
I personally use Thumbs Plus.
Also, You might want to upgrade your CorelDraw version one of these days. The new versions have alot of cool new features and you can get the upgrade price. Version 10 has a pretty bad rap.
I checked out Thumbs Plus, and it runs almost $30 more than the ST Thumbnails.
Living on SSD, money's pretty tight. I'd love to upgrade Corel, but just can't afford it.
Thanks for the help!
Mickey
