Hello everyone,
I have Corel Draw Graphics Suite X5 for like 2 weeks already (installed on my pc since then), and yesterday got Corel Designer X5. I wanted to install Corel Designer only, but I was unable to do so. It kept informing me that:
"A newer version of this application is already installed on this computer. If you wish to install this version, please uninstall the newer version first."
And so I did. I thought that I will remove Corel Draw Graphics Suite X5 first, then install Corel Designer X5 only (Corel Draw is in my native language - Designer not), and then whole Corel Draw GS X5. Took quite some time (there was a guide on Corel.com how about how to remove Corel files from registry etc.), but I had no doubt that then I will finally install Corel Designer. I was wrong. Same information kept appearing. And so I ended up having not a single Corel program on my pc. Any ideas?
I'm using Windows 7, 64-bit version.
I've been installing from the control panel without an issue.
There might be a tool for this. I have it for X4 but never needed it for X5. Sorry I haven't kept a copy.
The only solution I have is reinstall the other version then remove it via programs add remove in the control panel.
Thanks for the hint, but I was unable to uninstall it via Programs in the Control Panel as Corel Draw Graphics Suite X5 was not on the list of installed programs. Kinda weird though. I doubt it will show up after installing again. Polish Corel support contacted me today and calmly introduced a solution: reinstalling Windows. At first I thought it was a bad joke, but they just ended up with this. Reinstalling system is not an option for me. Is there really no other way?
Just reinstall CGS and then removing it via the Control Panel.
I could be wrong but I think it has something to do with Windows caching service pack or the copy protection.
You could try this but I offer no promise http://windows-installer-cleanup-utility.softpedia.com/
And for the record Adobe products suffer the same issue.
Sorry I'm just not sure where the cache folder is now. It's different I think depending on OS.
There may be other components, installed by CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 that are shared with Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X5, that are still installed. These programs have separate uninstallers from the Suite and should appear in Control Panel, Programs and may include: Corel Graphics - Windows Shell Extension or Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2.0.
What version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 was previously installed? Was it installed from DVD or download?
If you installed from DVD, Extra content that may have been installed with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 would also appear in Control Panel.
Do you see any of these components listed in Control Panel?
Sharon
Yes, there were 2 components viewable in Control Panel/Programs. And so I uninstalled both Corel Graphics - Windows Shell Extension and Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2.0. But then (without restarting pc) I tried to install Corel Designer X5, and same information appeared. I guess that these components are still somewhere in the registry, but this time I don't know which particular items to remove.
As for the version of Corel Draw GS X5 - I cannot find it on the box (yes, I have a DVD), so I don't know.
Thank you Maciej.
The installer creates log files, each time it is run, which may help to show us where the problem is.
These log files are stored in the user temp folder. To access this folder directly, from Start menu, select Run/Search and type %temp%. These log files are in pairs - one ending in .log and the other in .log.xml.
Could you please email them to me? You may need to zip them first. Send me an email through the newsgroup and I will reply back to you. You should then be able to attach the files in an email to me.
Thank you.
Log files are ready and e-mail sent.
