Guys,
I first want to say that I started off using Adobe Illustrator in the gap where I now use CorelDRAW and although there are things that I love about CorelDRAW, I will say that it is the MOST unpredictable and flaky program I have ever worked with. I miss my Illustrator and even though CorelDRAW is better suited for my industry (sign design) I need a solid platform to get my work done. That is why I am here because I have to think that this program could not be as popular as it is if it were the disastrous failure that it is becoming with me.
I have literally lost all my comfort in using this program as I now EXPECT it to crash irregularly, but very very VERY constantly. I'm sure it may have crashed while I was typing this.
We have 3 design areas here, two on quad core beasts and one average computer that cannot seem to not crash with CorelDRAW. In trying to rule out the symptoms it has been inconclusive. At first I thought it may be our server connection timing out while Corel is trying to communicate with it. I was SURE that had to be the problem. I started saving locally on the hard drive and sure enough, CRASH. Crash after crash. Its becoming so regular that if I cannot find a solution I'm going to find another program and never look back.
The only thing I have not tried, and will tomorrow, is to disable the Scrapbook because I noticed that is a live feed and if there IS a communication error or timeout with our server then perhaps this could be part of the issue? I don't know. I'm just looking for a solution.
If someone cares to chime in on this be forewarned:
* Updated the service packs on all computers
* Tried the F8 trick > no dice
* Reinstalled, all computers still have random crashes (with no real consistent variable.. other than the server)
* Tried to not save on the server, BLAMMO. CRASH.
Thanks in advance for your input,
Ethan

Hi Ethan,
I am a former user of Scrapbook, now instead I use Corel CONNECT. Which you can use as a docker as well as standalone program, and works great in conjunction with TRAY.
I surely hope this continuos issues you are having will be resolved.
I have been using Connect with the trial version of CD6. So far I LOVE it! Its everything that Scrapbook should have been and more.
Have your crashing issues been resolved? I started having these problems a while ago and the problem has gotten progressively worse. I crash most often when I print or when I export a pdf. Now I'm crashing when I save. No errors show up and nothing appears int he event viewer. I have my fonts below the 500 threshold, I F8'd, Repaired, SP3, Hotfix, Deleted styles and graphic styles. What else?
Have your crashing issues been resolved?
Not entirely.

Not entirely. > We have 3 powerful computers in my art dept, all of which crash using CorelDRAW X5 for unexplained reasons and at random, it seems, at times. Processor and memory are not the issue, these are beasts that could fly through 3d programs with ease. X6 (so far) seems a little more stable but I have had some weird crashes with X6 that were copy/paste font related, and a couple at random. I have had converting to PDF crashes before when I was using a "custom" font that I got from one of the many sites out there with free fonts. When I would outline before saving crashes wouldn't happen as often. I started having these problems a while ago and the problem has gotten progressively worse. I crash most often when I print or when I export a pdf. Now I'm crashing when I save. > I had a crash while saving recently that lost me an entire file, completely unable to salvage the file. That really sucked. I could see it in the preview but couldn't open it. Had to redraw. No errors show up and nothing appears int he event viewer. I have my fonts below the 500 threshold, I F8'd, Repaired, SP3, Hotfix, Deleted styles and graphic styles. What else? > Re-install maybe? I'm using the X6 trial version and it has gained me about 20 days of less crashing so far so this just reminded me that if I don't upgrade after the trial I will be in a similar boat again. I am very jealous of the people that "never have crashes" and cant relate. I wonder if they are using Corel in a more leisurely way and not pushing the processor as much or if there is something random in their operating system that is allowing for a smoother ride. Either way, my Control-S gesture has become a permanent move that I do probably once ever 2 minutes because of loss of files. On big projects I also create incremental back ups. Don't see any other option.
I found this on a Google search and I'm hoping this will take care of my issue. Today will be the big test.

Download the .reg file and install it to your Windows registry. I will update you with what I find and if you try this I ask that you do the same as well.
