Hi,
I’m involved in a software project which is targeting on development of CAD software. Now I have to read vector information from CorelDraw files (.cdr)
Is there anyway to obtain the cdr file format specifications, or is there any third party modules available for that?
(What I’m really interested is extracting the vector information from the Corel Draw file)
Thanks.
Sorry, there are no file format specification available for CDR. I believe there are some for CMX.
Regards,Hendrik
Hi
Thanks Hendrik for your comments. Switching to CMX seems ok for us. I search the net for CMX format. But I couldn't find the CMX specs. Do you know any link to get those or do we have to make a request from Corel Cooperation to get the CMX specifications?
Regards,
Gayan.
It is available throught the technology partner program from Corel.
Gérard
Have they updated those specs since 1998? (CorelDRAW v8).
Could someone please respond to this question?
I have asked this so many times over the years it's becoming a joke. If the answer is no then say no.
I have even email Corel people on this and again no response - this is the main reason I have not upgraded to x4, no help, no support.
I think the question is pretty simple.
The CMX format is supposed to be backward and forward compatible, so if you have the spec from 1998, you should be able to open CMX files from X4. Some new native objects (e.g. tables) would come in as curves.
What are you trying to do with CMX files?
Trying to use the CMX format to import into out native format. Using the old CMX Browser (8.0) there are tags or data items that to not display correctly thus it's a bit difficult to determine what these are. I don't remember exactly but I think it was in the color table area when there were Spot color entries. It has been awhile (2 yrs if not more) and if the doc were up to date I was going to explore this again.
I will be posting more questions on Spot color palettes using x3.

I don't think the documentation is up to date (can't say for certain), but you should be able to get the old data for tags you don't understand. Colour changed quite a bit in X3. For colours that the old format do not understand it would most likely give the RGB value.
I'm by no means an expert at the CMX format, so I can't provide much more info on it.
I'm really happy you replied. I know I've asked before and even sent emails with no response so I thanks you for at least attempting to answer.
Again thanks
