Just tried to open a V4 .CDR file in X3 and it's "processing" forever... I can't <esc> it... any ideas how to stop it? (safely )
(I still have V8 installed and it opens the V4 file, so all is well with the world )

It's a CAD drawing: the bones of it was created with a simple CAD package, then taken into Draw to annotate and colour-in. There are no fancy things like dropshadows or clips; the only thing I could think on was that it was stuck trying to regenerate some of the texture fills, but since this hasn't changed from V4 I doubt it.
In the end I had to bring up task manager and "end task" - don't like doing that; never know what you'll come back to.

I have a Windows 95 machine I keep for this kind of thing.
I could load CorelDRAW 4 (or an older version) on to it and then move the file(s) forward in versions for you if you like.
Or has the conversion been done already?
Hi digital demon,
>I could load CorelDRAW 4 (or an older version) on to it and then move the file(s) forward in versions for you if you like. Or has the conversion been done alreadyThank you for the kind offer.
But , as a background info, it all started because I was about to start a new project, got X3 and tryed to use the 2nd CD from Corel 3.In the mean time, I'm struggling with X3, not sure I'll survive :-))
Thanks again

k... If you still want to try CD3 through XP you could try running it in Windows 95 emulation mode... the switch for that is in START button (lower left), Programs, Accessories, Program Compatibility Wizard
As well, some of those same images you're after on the CD3 2nd cd might be in the clipart from later versions... I've seen that many times.
And you could always punch up a generic image name in Google and see what comes back at you...
eg: "bear raster image" or "bear vector art"
The basic functions in X3 are virtually the same as since the beginning versions... even the icons for the functions. It's one of the things I like about Corel ... They don't mess with the basics. So transitioning to new versions is easy.
And you can find lots of help in these forums of course.

ps: Don't panic 'til you see a large mushrooming cloud.
I have CorelDraw ver 4.0. It will not save projects in XP Home. I bought ver 12, and I'm converting my files with some difficulty. Version 4 will export everything except a couple of graphics on each file. As I'm reading all the conversations, I notice they are saying that ver 5 files can be opened by any version. If so, do you have version 5?? I would be happy to pay for the file conversion.
