Hey guys I am very new to Coreldraw and graphic design in general. I downloaded the trial version last night to test it out and so far I really like it. I do have a question though. I drew a logo today and cannot for the life of me figure out how to erase or trim or whatever it is called in this program.
To keep things simple what I basically have is a rectangle serving as the main portion of the bat and an ellipse serving as the knob of the bat. The ellipse overlaps the bottom portion of the bat to creat the knob. I would like to remove the portion of the ellipse that overlaps the rectangle. How would I go about doing this? Thanks for any help!
If I've understood your picture ... you have something like this ... ?
Then the facility you want is trim which is part of the shaping docker Window > Dockers > Shaping and then set the dropdown to trim, with the option "leave original source object".
When the docker is open, select your rectangle, click on the trim button and point to the ellipse. Only the part of the ellipse outside the rectangle will then remain.
However, you might also try a weld. You don't need to trim to do this, nor do you want "leave original". Just set the dropdown to weld, select one of the objects, click "weld to" and point to the other.
The result of trim and weld are slightly different, so use whichever works best for your purpose.
Hello Bluewatebrew; There is more than one way to draw a base ball bat. to be simple you could do something like the screen shot, but even the simple way that I drew it would take a lot of space and you may not understand what I'm trying to say. The best advice I could give would be to get some of the learning aids that's out and watch the video's and read the book. One of the sites that's loaded is Foster Corburn's ( http://www.unleash.com ), and you can do a search on the web to find others. I attached a CMX file so you can play with what I drew.

harryLondon,
Thanks for the reply! I am with you up through Window>Dockers, then I do not see an option to trim?
I am going to try to post a jpg of what I am working on so you guys can see what I am talking about. This is just a quick sketch but as you can see on the knob, I would like to trim out that overlap. Thanks!
Guys,
After some more playing around I figured it out! Thanks so much!
Hi Bluewater,
I know that you have figered this problem out which is good.
Their is more than 1 way to do this looking at the drawing of the 2 bats you have applied the knob last in that part of the drawing.
In the drawing that you show if you Right click on the knob part of the drawing and < select < order < to back of page < or behind < or back 1.
This should fix it very quickly.
