Since i upated to Windows 7 I needed to update to Smart Designer 4.5. The problem is that since installing Smart Designer 4.5 I keep getting visual basic error messages in the other two programs. any suggestions onhow to resolve this?
Hello icotta; You may need to down load the latest updates for Windows 7.
My Thoughts George
Corel x5 will NOT install - Wilcom does NOT give you a serial number to install the "integrated" x5. Wilcom es e2 gold installed fine on an in- place win 7 pro os reinstall. Corel x5 will NOT! It wants a serial number that is not provided by Wilcom.
Win 7 updates: done
Uninstalls & reinstalls done by the book: many times for both programs, all to get Corel x5 past the serial number with no luck. This includes the instructions from both Corel & Wilcom on how to do it.
Uac, virus, firewall: all disabled
Msconfig: all non-windows items unchecked except for the sentinel & protexis. But also tried disabling those too a few times with no luck.
Ready to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows 7 pro.
At my wits end, Wilcom & Corel! WHY DOESN'T WILCOM PROVIDE A SERIAL NUMBER?
When installing Wilcom EmbroideryStudio e2 (or DecoStudio e2), CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 is installed as part of the Wilcom product. The installation of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 in that setup is done silently and you should only see a setup window with a status bar. There is no prompt for a CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 serial no. when installing Wilcom e2 and CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 as part of it.
That's why there is no serial no. provided by Wilcom or Corel for installing CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 within the Wilcom e2 products.
Wilcom e2 setup can install CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 as integrated component only if it isn't installed already. Please make sure CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 is uninstalled before you run the Wilcom e2 setup.
Not true: "CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 in that setup is done silently and you should only see a setup window with a status bar."
From an upgrade to install e2 gold w/ x5 -- Wilcom's setup did NOT install it silently -- I had to install Corel X5 manually. ((FYI: e1.5 did install x4 silently the first time, but on a reinstall of e1.5 it would not silently run the X4 install, but a manual install worked, however the link between e1.5/X5 was broken. At that point I upgraded to ES e2 Gold, and that brings us to now.))
The second install of e2 gold also required a manual install of x5, although the graphics icons in e2 were greyed out & it took a while to fix that.
The third time (& 4th, 5th, 6th)-- nothing, not even a manual X5 install worked. At that point Corel asked for a serial number - which I do not have, nor am I likely to get one unless I buy a stand-alone product from Corel. This is what I need to do? After spending thousands on this "integrated" software? Just so I CAN get a number?? I absolutely LOVE the software, the companies that make it, not so much.
EVERY time Wilcom/Corel programs quit working was right after Windows updates were installed . . . so . . .
It's time to quit sharing common files between programs. Wilcom plus Corel should be installed TOGETHER, and isolated together, so nothing can break the connection except for their own bugs. Dependence on the OS system files to make any program run should be eliminated - it's not efficient if programs don't perform or install properly. We now have mega storage capacity available!
To date, Corel x5 has not installed on my Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine and I still don't have a clue as to why, except for permissions. That is the one thing I have not done: I will temporarily set the permissions to give 'everyone' ownership of the drive, w/ full control, turn off everything, use a clean boot, etc, and see what happens. If it works I'll report back. Of course, I'll back up first :)
RE: "temporarily set the permissions . . . " and more, etc. In a nutshell, everyone had access, no restrictions anywhere. I did this unplugged from the network/internet.
Nope, didn't work.
I'm going to buy a standalone version w/ just to get a serial number!
Downloaded the free trial evaluation version of X5 to test with Embroidery Studio e2. It works fine if:
1. You end the 2nd CorelDraw program that starts up when you go into graphics mode from e2 (if you have a 2nd one, mine does/always did!).
2. Set the default workspace to Wilcom (start e2 and go to graphics mode, stop the 2nd Corel program). Save your settings to change the template, doesn't hurt anything to do it.
3. Close e2, wait 30 seconds, and open X5 as a standalone. Uncheck every option, such as auto updates, splash screen, etc.
4. Go into options and select the Wilcom Workspace, and check the box so that it is always selected at start up.
5. SAVE these settings as the default for X5. If you don't do this step it will start
BTW: I also purchased X5 :) -- just to put an end to the serial number issue. Wilcom's setup should give you the option to install Corel (or not). Also, being able to add, remove, or repair X5, using e2's uninstall/change option from the Add/Remove program in Windows! That's integration.
I have used Wilcom from Version 6x at work. My first Wilcom purchase was for Version 8. Not a novice!
