I just upgraded my system. Unfortunately Windows 7 isn't out yet and I was not compelled to pay Dell another $100 for XP so I now have Windows Vista. I am experiencing some strange behavior in Font Navigator when I try to install certain Type 1 fonts which I never had a problem with on XP. I did a little experiment with three of them and installed them directly into the Vista Fonts. Now Font Navigator will install them. Those I did not install that way get the attached error message. Does this sound like a Font Navigator problem or Windows Vista?
All I can say so far about Vista is that it's pretty and relatively quiet compared to XP (system sounds). I now even leave my speakers turned on!
I used Windows Vista for several months and never had problems with fonts, speacially with Type1 Fonts. Now I use Windows Seven and all works fine
Hi Tommy,
using a 64bit version of Vista here and I've pretty much given up on FN. it's come to the point that it's merely an indicator of fonts available and I now use it for TTF and Open Type only. It'll find T1's if install them through Windows but won't install them itself. Frankly I think that FN has come to the end of it's days if there's not a serious amount of work done to it. Sad really as it's quite a cute bit of kit and actually useful. Oh well, I guess it's simply a case of breaking out the old hardware - "Brain Mk1... Humans for the use of". Vaguely irritating, but I know for certain that you can easily handle that :o) I'll be happier for Corel to put the work into PhotoPaint rather than FN in the long run - it's the Photoshop killer in waiting (isn't it so much more an application for adults ?) if Corel were to give it the attention that it deserves and there are font utilities evrywhere, so FN can wait. Sad, but that's life I guess.
Take care mate,
Paul
Well, then that answers my question. I am also using the 64 bit version of FN. Yes, OT and TT fonts perform as expected. The fonts I was experiencing difficulty with were the Bodega Sans family. Like I said, installing through Vista worked so apparently there is a conflict between Windows Vista (64 bit) and Font Navigator.
