Hi my first post here. I've had a "trial" version of X5 and created some simple electronic equipment control panel labels for my signwriter/engraver and all was good. Since buying a license he tells me he can't open the new files and gets an error of "Corel Draw is telling me that the active layer is locked or invisible"
I've redone the files from scratch a few times but still the same. I'm a novice with Corel but can't see any difference in files that work or don't work on my pc when I view properties and object manager. I believe the license was activated with Corel so think that should be OK. I don't know anyone else using Corel so I was hoping to attach some cdr files to see if anyone here could help or advise. Hmm just tried to attach a file and its limited to 256k, both files are about 500k. What do users do for large file sharing on this forum?
Thanks in advance Joe
Try saving without a color profile. If that still doesn't get the file down low enough (usually does without embedded bitmaps) then you need to upload to your own server or dropbox.com and provide a download link.
Mike
Thanks for that tip!
Ok so I've hopefuly attached two files "test file worked before" and hopefully still does after saving it fresh
and the new file which is causing the error "new-rj-front"
I'm also just registering product with 30 day support at Corel.
Thanks Joe
might have missed the other file, try again.
Hi Joe,
I don't have X5. These two files open in both X6 & X7 without issue.
It is possible that you engraver's installation of CD is corrupted or otherwise unstable. To reset see this article:
http://corel.force.com/index/articles/en_US/Master_Article/000006677-Resetting-Application-Defaults-in-CorelDRAW-and-PHOTO-PAINT-Running-on-Windows
They will loose any customizations to the workspace, but workspace itself can become corrupt and affect simple operation. A worse-case scenario would be that they should run a repair from Windows' control panel, the uninstall a program section. I haven't see a corrupt font cause an open file error, but I wouldn't fully rule that out until the previous options were tried.
Perhaps someone with X5 will come along and try the files. But as they open on your copy of X5 and in both my versions, likely they won't have issues, either.
Thanks very much for testing those files Mike. Seems like the problem might be at the engravers shop hmmm.
Files open fine on X5 with SP3+hot fix installed on WIN XP SP3.
If he is getting such message, he can open file but nothing to do with the objects as layers are locked (see sybmol of pencil on Object Manager) or invisible (see symol of eye on Object Manager), i.e. he just need to unclock (or make visible) layer by clicking on symbol
Best regards
Mek
Thanks for that Mek. I assume the engraver is ok with with changing edits in object manager but we all know what happens when you assume. Shall report back with what the outcome is when it's fixed.
