I prefer to use an RGB workflow for output on my large format inkjet. I used to run into issues in my RIP whenever I had transparent objects. Typically I would either convert the entire graphic to a bitmap, or would have to convert the objects to device CMYK color and then publish as a pdf.
I just tried exporting an eps file instead, hoping that my RGB colors would remain, and to my surprise there they are with transparent effects and gradient mesh still intact! I haven't even installed SP1 yet!

Glad to hear it's working for you...RGB output is a big thing to the large format printing industry and it was one of our big targets while we were working on color management.
