Hello All,
I have a billboard to design, one of my firsts so I'm kinda nervous. Anyways, the billboard size is 10'6''x44' and the printer is asking for a 3 inch bleed all around. He is requesting I design it in 1/4 size so I've broken it down into inches and I came up with 31.5''x132''. I guess I'm looking for a confirmation on my math lol! Anyways how would I achieve the 3 inch bleed all around? Would I design the poster in the measurements I have mentioned or do I actually need to add an additional 3 inches to the layout? I'm not too familiar with the bleed..I ALWAYS seem to have a difficult time doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!!
Hi Liz,
I guess the printer is going to join 4 pieces into one.
You just have to do the design as usual and then cut it into four, with some overlapping at the joints.
So your artwork size will be 10'6" + 6" x 44' + 6" -> 132" x 534"in
After the design is done, you need to separate it into 4 panels. I usually use powerclip to do so. Basically the joints will be at the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 of the actual length i.e. 11', 22', 33'But you need to consider the overlapping area between the panel needed for the joining purpose. I usually overlap a 4" width. You may want to check with your printer on his required overlapping width.Let's say we overlap 4in, the powerclip container for the first panel will be 132" (H) x 137" (W), second container 132" (H) x 136" (W), third container 132in (H) x 136" (W), fourth container 132" (H) x 137" (W).
See the attached cdr file.
This is how I usually do it :-)
Create your design with page at real size, and if you use a background it must be 3 inches bigger around. You can set the bleed on the document, and if you send a PDF, you must also add a bleed
The maths is what you need to get on top off.
Here is a layout that shows you what is happening. Attached
Cheers,Chris
Hey MT,
How do you attach CDR files to your reply??
Chris
