I have a master map with lots of topo lines, roads, etc. I need to "cut out" individual maps from this master map. Currently I add a point where I want to "cut" on each individual path and "break apart" each line. This process is very time consuming and inefficient, there must be a better way. Help please?
(I'm coming from Freehand where I could just select all of the individual lines together and use the knife tool to cut along the lines I needed to then extract just the map I wanted)
Hello Kelly; It will help to get the best answer if you give us more info, like what kind of file are you working with, what program are you using to edit the file.
George
I'm using CorelDraw X6. My master map is in CorelDraw X6. I don't understand what you mean what program I'm using to the edit the file?
Well you are telling me you are editing it in X6 in Draw, you are saying that the map it a vector file, so you should be able to Ungroup ( Ctrl+u ) or Brake Apart ( Ctrl+k ) and then just select the parts of the map you want. Then you can select those items and Group them ( Ctrl+g ) or Combine them ( Ctrl+L ) to make it one piece so they can be moved around with out coming apart. I hope this is some help.
Yes, it's a vector map. I need the lines to break apart in a specific parameter, there is not necessarily a node on each line where I need them to break apart. Breaking apart the lines to where all of the nodes are broken and they all act like separate individual lines sounds like a nightmare to then try to select all the ones I want and group them - you are talking of hundreds of lines now.
Isn't there a way I can slice through all of the lines I select at once, or crop them so I can extract only the lines I want in a given square?
Kelly you can use the Shape Tool and right click on a line where you want a node or brake the line. What state are you looking for, I'll look and see if I have it.
