Recently installed Win7 64bit, and Corel Draw X4 won't install. I just get an error message saying The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows that you're running. I've tried installing in compatibility mode for everything since XP SP2 and no luck. I was running Vista 64bit before and it ran fine.

That's news....there are several running X4 on Win7 boxes. Did you reinstall X4 or just plug in the external drive with X4 already on it ?

H,

I beleive it should work to install X4 on Win 7 64 bit.
Cant say why it doesnt, but untill there is an answer, if you have at least Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, then turn on the Virtual PC and XP mode, that will enable you to instantly install X4. You can then create a Folder which you can reach from both Virtual PC / XP mode. So for example if you use X4 Photo-Paint or CorelDRAW to scan a image, then place it in that folder. Then if you need it, when not using Virtula PC/XP mode, you reach the folder and scanned images and files easily.

Which win 7 do you have?

@ Ted: Formatted and installed Win7, then tried to re-install X4 from scratch. the setup file will not run at all, the error message I get is instantaneous.

@ Stephan: Win7 Ultimate. I've read of people using that method on other forums, bu it seems strange, as X4 SHOULD run on Win7 64bit. Corel says it will. I'll try that method and see what happens...

... erm... how do you do it? Embarrassed

BTW, I tried installing X3 and it runs fine. problem is all my drawings are x4 files.

Hi Jeff,

If your X3 was good then X4 will.
And Win 7 Ultimate would work.
I have Win 7 PRO 64 bit myself.

There might be something else causing the error then.
X4 should install on your machine as well.

When Corel in Canada and the rest of USA wake up, (Im in Sweden) more people will probably notice this post, and especially some Corel employees working in Canada, who might have a good suggestion and solving the issue. I will even send a link about this post to one Corel person especially.

Ps. I DONT work at Corel, but I have a contact. Just so you dont ask me to "Corel-ish" questions ;-)

I know the feeling, but I made this very thing myself, regarding XP mode and installing X4, because my older Canon Scanner dont have a driver for Win 7 64 bit. But I do run CorelDRAW & Photopaint installed on Win 7 64 bit as well.

But do see this as a temporary solution, Because you will be able to use X4 on Win 7 Ultimate.
Promiss. I just dont remember what could be your specific issue to solve.

You will have to make a setting in BIOS and then other things, but you can start to check this Microsoft page about this very thing.

I've been using X4 on a Win7 x64 computer for the last few months without problems, installing from the original DVD and then upgrading to the latest Service Pack / Hot fix. There is no need to use the compatibility mode nor install as an administrator. I suppose you have followed the instructions in the read-me file to disable the anti-virus software (some are conflicting the installation)?

I would recommend you contact the Corel technical support as we provide free support for installation problems - http://www.corel.com/contactus

I am also running X4 on a Windows7 64Bit system and it works great. No problems at all. It even seems to run better on this system than on XP

I know this won't help, but I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and had no problems installing CorelDRAW X4 and run it every day.

Not all employees are in Canada :P

Back to subject: Are you installing from DVD or download. If you have a DVD please browse the DVD for the volinfo file. What does it say there?
