Hi,
I recently upgraded from X4 to X5 and have started encountering the following error on some files when trying to open them. "CorelDRAW encountered an improper argument."
This tends to occur about 'halfway' through the loading progress bar and results in a dead corelDRAW which I have to close before opening any other file, along with the offending file being completely unable to be opened!
These files were originally created in X4, but have been updated and saved in X5.
There is no error message when saving the file initially.
Is this a file corruption? Something to do with X4>X5 upgrade or what? The backup file is generally also stuffed.
Unfortunately the files are some 70mb each and can't be emailed in for testing. The problem is not re-creatable and occurs at random.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

I've had the same problem with around 10 files over the last 6 months. It started with X4 and has continued with X5 - I've tried all the above, including rebuilding the workspace, importing the file but nothing works. As previously mentioned the file sizes are usually 50 meg +. My first problem file was for an 8 page brochure that was around 200 meg about a year ago with X4.
Can anyone suggest any further help with this problem?
Nick
I've had this problem a few times over the past week while doing some mission critical work for a school yearbook and grad slideshow. Needless to say, it's been very frustrating, and I've had to start from scratch each time. Fortunately, I had saved the one file as a PDF, and was able to reconstruct it from that.
It seems to be something to do with embedded bitmaps in the document. One file I tried opening came up with the error message "Error reading a bitmap in file D:\Grad Slideshow 2010\Events & Activities.cdr ~ Click ABORT if you do not wish to open the file ~ Click RETRY if you wish to continue opening the file ~ Click IGNORE if you wish to open the file without further error messages". I clicked RETRY, and shortly after I got the "Improper Argument" message. If I click IGNORE, it continues to try and open the file, but just stalls after 10 minutes or so. Some of my other files with bitmaps in them (digitial photos, and direct scans) just go straight to the "Improper Argument" screen without even mentioning a bitmap error.
BTW - My file sizes vary with this problem, but are typically in the range of 500-750 megs each. I've never had this with any version of CorelDRAW until X5...and I've used every version since 3.0
