HI EVERYONE,
I AM MOVING TO A NEW COMPUTER AND NEED TO MOVE COREL X5 INTO IT. IS IT POSSIBLE? OR NEED TO BUY A NEW PACKAGE?
Hello HDFG; It depends on the new computer. Newer Windows will let you slave the old computer and retrieve programs. But new Computer I would get the X7 while you can still get the update price, depending on what you do with the Corel program. If you make a living with it like my self it's a no brainier, you want the latest and best you can get. You can go to the Corel.com at the top of this page to see the differences.
Have Fun with the New Computer, George
If you have a retail version, you can move it in most countries, but licence rules do vary between versions of the product. In most countries you are allowed to have the retail version installed on three machines, but you must not use more than one of them at a time.
X5 will work in windows 7. It is not tested or recommended for windows 8, but will probably work in windows 7 compatibility mode.
I'm not sure about X5, but for at least X6 onwards you should be online and "signed in" when you uninstall from the old machine. This ensures that Corel knows you have uninstalled it and will no longer include your old machine in your installations count -- which might be important if you later want to install on other or additional machines.
But I never used X5, so that might not apply -- somebody else will know the answer to that.
Again the licensing restrictions apply as discussed above, but if your question is how to move your custom settings here is how. (Done it more than once, last time was a 1TB drive when south) You will want to copy this to new computer BEFORE your run install CorelDraw. On old computer go to:
%APPDATA%\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5
You will want to zip this up and then unzip this on your new computer and then call your macros, workspaces and customizations with be restored.
