PLUS, I can't install CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5. Hangs up at "Please wait while Setup configures Visual Studio Tools for Applications." Then returns Error 1117. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Hello Phantom; You might want to look at where you got Ver. X5 from since Corel Doesn't sell it any longer.
George
Hi TheSign Guy,
Corel may not sell it any longer, but they should still support it. It isn't that old! Worked GREAT on Windows XP OS! Got a new computer, Windows 8.1, now it won't install?

X5 is not and never was qualified to run on Windows 8.x.
You could try to install the CGS Suite with WinXP compatibility mode.
If that does not work, then the best thing to do, is to obtain a copy of a virtual system, such as VirtualBox and install a copy of WinXP in the VirtualBox. Then under the WinXP, install your CGS X5.
Hi Hugh,
I understand that X5 was not qualified to run on Windows 8.x because Windows 8.x wasn't even invented/released yet???
But the fact is that most software is installed under (x86) - the 32-bit version of Windows 8.x. Is that what You are referring to as "WinXP compatibility mode"?
If the software installs on 32-bit versions of any other Operating System, then why won't it install now under 32-bit? Other software titles install just fine, but not CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5...
Well Phantom; They do, They do, You just have to pay for it!!! I don't think that's right either but that's the way it is and X5 was not made for Windows 8, but I'll bet there are people that are using it on it. Well you could try some of the standard thing like turn the fire wall of shut down the antivirus program, log in as administrator, make sure you hold your moth right.
Good Luck, George
