High Bear

The reference for this drawing was a photo by Herman Heyn which he took in 1900 (http://img303.imageshack.us/img303/8024/highbearref9us.jpg). I don't know much of the person portrayed and by the time I drew this I didn't even know which tribe he belonged to. By his outfit I guessed he was Lakota, though. And this information I got from somebody on another board: "High Bear was an Oglala Lakota headman and one of the signers of the 1877 Agreement with the Sioux Nation, Northern Arapaho & Cheyenne (other signers of that treaty included Red Cloud, American Horse (the elder) and Big Foot). His family lives on amongst other Sioux bands today. One of his descendents is Martin High Bear who passed away in 1995. Martin was a well known author and Sioux spiritual leader." This could be right. Digitally drawn with Corel Photopaint using a tablet by Wacom.
