Every now and then I take part in one of those contests where you're supposed to caption a pet photograph. This is my cat examining the skull of a dog I found 2 days ago ( I collect skulls the way hunters collect antler sheds- everyone has a hobby 
).
Anyway, Corel Photopaint was used to blur a white version of the text, multiply the result 3 or 4 times before merging together, and topping it with normal black text. This is the simplest way I know to make text stand out on a rather busy picture.
