Dynamic text

Hi, this is probably really simple to do, but I had no luck with the help system.

All I want to do is insert "dynamic" text in my drawing, showing the document path and name. It's easy to do in other software like Autocad, but not sure who to do it in X5. Any help?

Thanks, -j mac

  • Hello monkey; when you do a Save As there are options at the bottom of the screen to add comments. I HOPE this is what you are wanting to know.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

No, what I need is the path of the drawing on disk, much like you'd see on an Engineering drawing. Something like C:\users\monkey5672\121121_Figure1_r1.cdr

    Know what I mean?

I'm not sure how to get it in the document itself, except by using a macro.

You can add the filename when printing -- prepress tab, turn on file information and optionally position within page. (Exact method may vary in earlier versions).

You can also do it in publish to PDF, but you can only do it outside the page border.

  • Hey J,

The only way I can see is click on the file in Explorer and then right click and get properties, highlight and copy the path and then paste into CDR as a text string.

Not very elegant but it works.

I have a free macro which can do this for you (attached to this post). I have attached a video below showing how it works, but I suspect it only plays in Firefox.
