The original poster identified some submenus that did not open.
In my case, absolutely none of the submenus in CorelDraw or PhotoPaint will open. I have gone through all of them in both programs. All other menu choices, including dialog box menu entries, such as open, work fine.
Short cut keys all seem to work.
Is my problem, no submenus opening, also the symptom of a expired trial version?
I have installed a CorelDraw 10 upgrade version under Win 98. I upgraded from CorelDraw 9 and Photopaint 8. The Corel specs say this should work.
The install step completed normally. The install program looked for an qualifying upgrade product and then asked for my serial number, which I entered from my Product Authenticity Card.
The help menu does not include a registration option to enter a trial version upgrade code.
I don't recall ever installing a trial version of any Corel product.
When I try to use the program, I can't.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled some 8 times now. I have tried running setup from a hard disk and the CD. I have tried just installing one program. I tried uninstalling everything that the Corel Installer would uninstall. I installed both service packs. Nothing makes any difference.
I have noticed that all three workspaces set up by the install had far fewer files than in PP 8 and CD 9. The workspaces set up did not include a pntmenu.cfg or cdrmenu.cfg among many other files. I tried copying over the files from my old PP and CorelDraw workspaces. That didn't work. Version 10 created new files in these directories.
Any idea of how I can get this to work? Without the menus, the program is useless.
Try to restore the default Windows theme settigs, most of the menu issues are relative to Windows theme options
A friend loaned me a laptop with XP so that I could determine if the problem was operating system related or not. The computer was XP SP3 Home Edition and had been updated in last couple of weeks.I started the CorelDraw 10 install. This time the installer told me the machine did not have a qualifying upgrade on it, which I knew. I inserted my CorelDraw 9 CD, and in due course the installer recognized it. I put in the serial number and the install completed. The online registration did not complete because I didn't have an internet connection where I was working.I rebooted the computer just in case.I set the theme to Windows XP.I opened both CorelDraw and Photopaint. The problem remained unchanged. Under both Win 98 SE and under Win XP SP3, none of the submenus in the menus would open. When I clicked, nothing happened. The Dialog box menu items and other menu items all seemed to work OK.I changed the theme to Windows Classic. Nothing changed. None of the submenus opened.I looked at the default workspace directory and saw the following files:For CorelDraw:CorelDraw 10 Bar.cfgCorelDraw 10 Docker.cfgCorelDraw 10 GlobalItemProp.cfgCorelDraw 10 ShortCutKeys.cfgCorelDraw 10.cfgFor Photopaint:Brushes.iniFitMan.iniphotopaint.cfgpntBar.cfgpntDocker.cfgpntGlobalItemProp.cfgpntShortCutKeys.cfgMy Photopaint 8 workspace had 20 files, one of them named pntmenu. My CorelDraw 9 workspace had a file named cdrmenu.cfg.Are some files missing here?
I tried F8. It made no difference.I have two service packs. Are there some other fixes that I haven't found?I googled various combination of submenu disable and open. My main finding was this thread. Most all of the others concerned html menus, the Windows start menu, and Linux. This doesn't seem to be a common application problem. This makes me think maybe the program does think it is an expired trial version. What causes the program to think there is an expired trial edition? Can you bypass that some way?
I found a post stating the same problem involving Corel 12 at
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/714318-coreldraw-12-menu-problem.html
"Corel 12 Menu Problem."
That poster discovered that the problem was only clicking the mouse, not using the keyboard.
I had the problem with both the keyboard and mouse originally.
I went back to my XP installation and discovered that the keyboard did open submenus but not the mouse. I had two mice on that machine. A USB mouse and a touch pad mouse. Neither would open the submenus.
I went back to my Windows 98 machine and discovered that enter was working on submenus there too. Maybe all my uninstalling did some good after all.
Why would enter on the keyboard work one way and the mouse another?
The post did not report a solution to the mouse not working.
