Metallic Colors

What is the trick of creating metallic looking colors, such as chrome and polished bronze.  Is it a task of changing variants of shade and blending or is there a palette that includes these?

you mentioned Jeff's tutorials... they're very good - but a lot also depends
on what you're trying to do... for me, "chrome" is not really so much "a
color" (nor is polished bronze)... to me, they're really more "what is the
shape of my base object that the outside world colors will be reflected
reflected off of and what base color might need to be added into the mix."

As an example of what I mean, here's the same text with differing photos
used as a displacement/reflection map, plus different bevels. I'm only
bringing this up because different people mean different things ...
especially when we're talking "color". Sure, we can all say "blue", but how
many of us will actually be thinking of the exact same shade of blue? Same
goes for "chrome" or "gold" or "mettalic" in general.
