Can I scan into X4 on a 64-bit system?

I know X4 is old, but it still runs just fine on my new system--64-bit Win8.1--and I like it better than I did X5, which is the last time I upgraded. I'd love to be able to use my new Canon LiDE 220 scanner to scan directly into X4. Is there a workaround of some kind or am I hoping for too much? Is there a way to do it with X5? (Heck, is it even possible with X6 or X7?)

Can you use the scanner to scan into other applications? Does it work with Windows 8.1?

Yeah, sorry--I should have said that. It works just fine with its cumbersome proprietary software, Canon Image Garden. It's just kind of a pain in the butt to scan it and save it in that, then go over and open it up in Photo-Paint.

I don't think Canon supply 64bit Twain drivers with their scanners. Stefan Lindblad is the expert on this - maybe he'll join in the thread.

Hi all,

X4 and X5 32 bit software to begin with. X6 and X7 have both 32 and 64 bit.

I can't say about all canon scanners, but at least all scanners prior and right after release of X6, rarely came with a 64 bit twain driver.

What is bad is that Canon marketed the scanner I bought, as a 64 bit driver compatible. But for 64 bit scanners, Canon supplied a scanner software of their own.

So what you can do is to install Conon scanner software and set it to open the scans in CorelDRAW and Photo-Paint. Otherwise your destined to use WA.

Your X4 and X5 should work With Twain if you have the twain driver from Canon, but only if the driver for your scanner is compatible, written specifically for win 8, win 8.1, win 7.
