Coloring/painting page to match a copied header color

Hi everyone.

I am new to Corel (well, I haven't used it since the 90s)

What I am trying to do is paint a page to match a copied header color (Elks Club).

I have tried to use the eye dropper and bucket, but I get the slash-thru bucket which is telling me no.

Please advise!

I guess you need to place your "bucket" over a vector shape to make the slash-thru disappear and fill it with the color... in X7, you can also add the sampled color to a color palette, via the property bar (just guessing that it is looking similar in X4).

In X4 with the eyedropper tool pluck the color you want then hold shift down and click the shape you want to fill. Why they changed that with X7 is beyond me.

I have tried that as well. In the bottom right corner it shows the color I have picked with eye dropper. But when I hit shift and the bucket appears, it won't bring the color forth - I get the x going thru the bucket. I am obviously doing something wrong but cannot figure it out.

... and is a locked layer selected?
