EndPoint definition of line vs. curve segments

Curve segments with arrow ends have their nodes inside of the arrow
triangle while line segments have them at the tip of the
arrow. Converting a line segment into a curve segment will thus
rearrange the segment erroneously.

  • You might post a CDR example to help explain that. I believe you but examples assist in action. See if you can show why it's not only wrong but an issue of concern.

Tried to make clear what I mean in the attached file LineVsCurveSegment.cdr. This missbehavior traces back to CorelDraw6 at least.

  • Yep, that's been driving me around the bend (oops--didn't mean to create an outrageous pun--just noticed it after typing it) for years. Hopefully some future release will address the strangeness of arrowheads in a number of situations--but much like the rounding and distortion of corners on rectangles there will be some resistance because millions of files would change when opened in that new and improved version.

(I have been suggesting for years that the rectangle problem could be solved with a new object type; a similar new object type solution would be viable for the arrowheads to keep compatibility with legacy files.

Great it's in the review zone. Not that the whole place isn't one big review zone.

Good work what else have you got? Stick out tongue

    Hi,

while this thread is outdated, I'd like to add my two cents. I hadn't even realized that line and curve segments were treated differently.

The problem could be solved by having the option of arrowheads clipping the outline itself. If, in the edit arrowhead dialog, I drag the segment end node to the center (the tip of the arrowhead) then the arrowhead will be in the correct position, even for a curved segment, but the outline pen will stick out a bit on the sides of the arrowhead tip.

    Cheers

    Gregor,

this is the workaround I also use in some graphics. It helps a lot to define round tips for the line ends. But it is still a workaround and will not always lead to useful results. A better solution would be to change the behavior in the software upfront.
