1. I can select any one item in corel and print and/or export just that item no matter wether it's on the page area or on the desktop area.
2. When saving as pdf corel has a way to tell it to convert all text to curves. Illustrator can't. Why is this bad? If I have a map that I've drawn in names of streets and such there may be over 50 labels. If I want to send it off to print as pdf I have to convert all the text individually in illustrator. In corel it's a simple process!

Well, I am a fan of Corel too, but it doesn't "Trump" Illustrator. Give us 100% of the X7 Wishlist and I'll retract my statement,
Neither program betters the other under the hand of someone who knows the software fully. Illy has some nifty 3d features we don't yet have, yet we have features (Print merge i.e.) that they don't yet have. Heck, even Inkscape has features neither have, same as Xara, the list goes on.
Very true, Mike - there's no perfect graphic program. What's less good is the comparison between PhotoPaint and Photoshop. At one time it would have been a close call, but not any more
Both programs has some similar features, since both are Vector Drawing software, both based on nodes and Bézier curves. And of course, both have some differences, and both have advantages and disadvantages. The key is how to use it.
Hi Myron
What! Adobe's Not perfect. Who knew that? most Corel users. Actually if you can do it by ctrl A shift control O for all text.. to export a single item you need an artboard for that layer and size it to fit the object.
Yeah I know that's Adobe idea of efficiency and for those that gripe about Corel Adobe has had users complaining about this for years years and years. You can make your selection then go to object - artboards fit to selected art then export the selection. Adobe changed to that way back I think CS2 or something. OF course you have to ctrl z to get back to your original board.
Ho Hum! nothing better to do trying to make a living here.
I'm Sure glad Corel added Open type and I only Use illustrator for the perspective grid and a couple of other things. Like the Shape Builder and width tool. Hint hint Corel
