Sketching in CorelDraw X4 with Tablet. Last object created is "Selected" Can this be changed?

There should be an option there to simply hide the selection handles. I'm pretty sure it's there in X5 through X7.

Do yourself a favor and check out Serif DrawPlus. On a tablet, it's the best vector option I've ever managed to find. And it's better than CorelDraw, for drawing, by very far. What you're asking for is done very well in DrawPlus. Plus a whole lot more direct control while drawing. Choose to allow the last stroke to remain selected, or not. And you can tap a stroke to reselect it, then continue drawing that same stroke. It reconnects. Also, if you draw with a range of stroke sizes, colors, opacities, and brush types, you can tap a stroke and acquire all of it's properties and continue drawing with it. These are extremely good features for drawing and you'd be hard pressed to find them anywhere else. Not even Illustrator can do all of this, and certainly not CorelDraw.
And it only costs about $30.00 on Amazon for version 5. The drawing tools are the only reason I use it. It's the only vector program I install on my tablet PC, but it's also excellent on my desktop Cintiq. It lacks the quality and finesse of Illustrator, but it's a lot easier to just draw with. It has this one killer feature. Draw a stroke and leave it selected, then there's a slider that smooths out that stroke, in real time. In Illustrator, you have to double click a tool to bring up a dialog, choose a smoothness setting and hope it works for whatever you draw afterward. DrawPlus lets you smooth strokes with a slider, on the fly. The general smoothness stroke is also a slider and is visible on the toolbar all the time. It has some really great ideas for how tools should work, but Illustrator still beats it for quality.

Another program to check out is Microsoft's old Expression design. It's discontinued now, but it is set up very similar to DrawPlus in terms of brush tools, and it's totally free to download. You'd be surprised how good both of these programs are.

@ John -- I would definitely be interested in your suggestion, I will do some research on how to write a macro, have never done it in CorelDraw before but have in other programs. Hopefully it is an easy solution.

BTW, good suggestion for Serif DrawPlus. I also have that program, DrawPlus X6 - it is a great program and some of the brushes are great, but they only export the custom brushes as a bitmap rendering, even when it is a PDF. That is my only complaint with DP. If you don't care that some of the objects are raster (which is true as well in AI and CDR) then this program really has some great effects that beat Illustrator or CorelDraw (Sorry Corel, LOL)

It's an idea but might just work.
This one should be relatively simple. In any macro, preferably a new one you create.
Open this new macro of yours in the VBA editor and in the project window find the ThisMacroStorage Module located in the CorelDRAW_X-- Objects folder. Double click it to open it.
In code view to the right you'll see 2 drop down menus. On the first one choose GlobalMacroStorage and then in the second one on the left choose the selection change event. You'll see the event procedure appear on the blank white area below. Within the sub routine of this put

ActiveDocument.ClearSelection

This macro will run immediately, so make sure you have your macro toolbar open, and you can toggle application events on or off from it, thus turning this macro on of off.
As a test this will get you started to see if the idea works.
