I'm having trouble opening my cdr file. I have a poster that needs to be finished by this weekend and every time I go in to open my file it opens up as a blank document both the original document and the backup. I've gotten a file format error. I was working on it earlier and it would stop working and would automatically shut down. Can anyone please give me any suggestions on how to fix. this. I'm totally not computer literate..I can do your basics on the computer but I would need a good step by step breakdown of how to fix this. Thank you so much for your help!
First, create a new empty CDR file and try to import the file into it. Sometimes that will work.
If it does not, try right clicking on the filename and go to properties > previous versions. Try this for both the CDR file and the backup_of... version.
Last resort -- make a spare copy of the file and in windows explorer, change the .cdr of the filename to .zip and double click on it. You should then see a content folder and in it a file named riffdata.cdr. Drag that to your desktop and see if you can open it.
The chances are small, but you can try :
• Create a new file
• File > Import and select the CDR file.
Sometimes, that will work.
Method 2 -- rename the file, so that it ends in .zip instead of .cdr. Now double click on the file. You should see several folders including one labelled content. Open that and look for a file named riffdata.cdr. Without closing those folders, Copy that to the desktop. Or try to recover it here with CDR Open File Tool
Now, try opening the riffdata.cdr.
I am extremely worried by the site mentioned in the above post.
The claims are too great and none of the established users here have ever recommended it. I have seen it mentioned before, but only by first-time visitors that have never posted before.
I can't say for certain that the site is malware, but everything about it looks suspicious. The CorelDraw file format is not publicly documented and varies significantly between versions so to claim that this product "will" fix files of all versions is in itself a bogus claim.
I would strongly suggest that anybody who visits the above site does so under the presumption that they may well be downloading a virus or malware of some sort, installs it only on an offline machine and totally reinstalls everything on that machine after it has attempted to recover the file before reconnecting it to the internet or using it for any other purpose.
