Hi all
I am new to these forums but hope someone can help me. I have installed Corel Draw X5 on a machine running XP Home (SP3) that more than matches the minimum specs required.
Have been a user of Corel Draw since version 7,8, 9 and 12.
When I type text using any True Type Arabic fonts in Corel Draw X5 the text just appears as blank squares. If I apply an outline to the text then it appears fine but if I then try to edit the text it goes back to appearing as blank squares. (Square are not filled, just outlines). This happens when typing text as artistic text or paragraph text.
It is the same in the drop down list for selecting a font when previewing a font it just appears as blank squares.
I do not have this problem with Corel Draw 7,8 or 9. All my Arabic fonts appear fine in these earlier versions of Corel Draw and in other software. This problem first arose with Corel Draw 12 but I learnt to live with it but am very disappointed it is still happening in X5.
On another note X5 appears to be not fit for purpose due to the number of problems I am and other users are having with it. I will list the issues in the post that asks to list all the issues.
Hope someone can help me with font display problem!
Riz
P.S When I first noticed this problem in Corel Draw 12 I did ring Corels tech support and they offered to help but only if I paid them £50 to which I obviously said no...especially as I had only just purchased Corel Draw 12

I've done a lot of work in this area for SP1. It is possible that your issues will be fixed then. However, I'd really be interested in trying out your very specific case. You see, a lot of the problems are Font specific so perhaps everything work here with the arabic fonts we are using that may not with the specific font you are using.
If you want, to can send me your arabic fonts and a test document in which you are using them so that I can use real arabic string. I'll check if everything is working with SP1. My email is public so just send me an e-mail and attach your fonts and your test file (max 2 MB). You may have to send multiple e-mails to to zip things up.
Looking forward to take a loot at this.
Thanks to both Claude and Lee for your responses.
Claude I will email you some fonts and sample files with some Arabic text asap. I will email you a Corel Draw 9 and Corel Draw 12 version of the same file as well as the appropriate fonts as well.
The thing that confuses me most is that theses fonts will function and display on screen without any problems in earlier versions of Corel Draw such as 7,8, or 9 and in other software (such as Word, Xara, Serif Draw Plus, Photoshop etc) but not in Corel Draw 12 or higher!
The nearest solution I ever found to this years ago in the Corel Knowlege base was the one at the link below but it did not fix the problem ( I tried it out of desperation).

Whoops!
One last thing I forgot to mention was that if you use Insert Character (I tried this as a work around) to insert a character from one of these Arabic fonts then again in the docker for Insert Character the Arabic characters appear as blank squares no matter what encoding I use. Again this does not happen in Corel Draw 7,8,9 and they appear as normal in these earlier versions. Only Corel Draw 12 and above seems to suffer from non-display of Arabic Characters.
I have a lot of Arabic fonts here. But never experienced any problems with them.
Could you send me the files and the fonts? I will test it then, also let me know how you imported the fonts
