I am building a big catalog for hundreds of products, and it would be a life savior if i could connect dynamically the (customized) text (fields) in the .cdr file to an external excel file data. For example smth like the text field "Title" to be taking its values from the column "Description" of the excel file, incrementally as each line of the excel file could represent a record. This way also when the excel file changes, (because it will be probably like 10 more versions before it gets final), the content inside the corel draw file will change automatically as well.
Download sample corel file here :
http://www.magnet.gr/monographix/delete/Template00_GEN_01_symbol_test.cdr
and sample excel file here :

Any ideas on how to accomplish smth like that or even faster / simpler ......
Hi.
As for the auto update I don't see it happening. Draw and excel are separate, very changing programs, and a collaboration would need to be created as well as maintained support wise.
I see no problem however with connecting to Excel and retrieving any data you need. You could also create a custom application.
Here's one quick example.
You'll find others too. Just search for Excel over at Oberon Place Forums.

Thank you
Unfortunately i dont have enough time to develop programming skills & knowledge on time for this (& others) project. (i'd rather use a software i paid for that programmers already coded its functionality for me to use out of the box and help me work)
again, this area is a lost cause with Corel
I am doing it where this (and lot more) kind of projects should be done : inDesign
amongst all the tools there, that Corel is unaware of , about this kind of projects, to name the main few, are
- perfectly working external image links
- dynamic linking to excel files
- working & totally customizable styles (the backbone of the software and such projects ...)
the difference in workflow, time saving, easiness, flexibility, is beyond description, its colossal
should i mention fully editable page numbering and dynamic contents-index management
CorelDraw is not a long document application like InDesign is not a small document, nor a large/grand format application. You already have your answer so why did you waste out time with a post?
