How do you get your font to output in inches. I have tried to type in 2.25 inches and CorelDraw changes it to 162 pts. However, when it prints out it is not 2.25 inches it is more like 1.5 inches. Is it the font? I am using ITC Benguiat? Please help? Also, how do you change the font settings in X4 from pts to inches.
Thanks,sperrin
Hello Dperrin; In most fonts some letters are taller than otheres, like a "O" is most of the time a tallest letter, and that is the size the others are set by. They are set like that so they will look even when printed or cut. so keep that in mine.

I could be imagining this, with me you never know...lol...but I seem to remember reading once that the font size includes the character itself, going from the top of the ascender to the bottom of the descender, but also included what would have been the metal rectangle which the character sat on in the olden days. Imagine the head of the hammers, or whatever they are called, on a typewriter. Instead of measuring the actual characters you are measuring the rectangle the character sits on.
If I did imagine reading this, someone please feel free to correct me. If I am recalling it correctly, it would explain why the characters are not appearing as larger as the measurement you are setting.
Best regards,Brian.
I can't remember where I originally read that explanation, but here this is from Wikipedia:
In metal type, the point size of the font described the size (height) of the metal body on which the typeface's characters were cast. In digital type, the body is now an imaginary design space, but is used as the basis from which the type is scaled (see em).
Thanks everyone. Great info. I was using all uppercase, so I cheated. I drew a box the size I needed, and checked it against the fonts. It worked for me. I really appreciate your attention to my question and the great feedback. Still a bit of a rookie.
