Upgrade to X6 about 10 days ago and at least initially, I was saving in both X5 and X6 formats because I've learned that you can't always trust a new version of Draw. Love the application but, as all long-time users know, new releases have a history of instability.
After a few days of fairly heavy use, it seemed like I was not going to have the usual problems and I stopped saving my work in X5 format. Probably a mistake because two days ago, it started crashing regularly on just about any document I've created with X6 and the crashes have become more frequent yesterday and today.
For the record, Win7 Pro 64-bit, 8gb RAM, Core 2, dual nVidia 8600GT cards with current WHQL driver, and a 250gb SSD boot drive. Data drive is a 750gb spindle with 450gb free.
When it crashes, the problem details are as listed below. I've tried resetting the workspace <F8> and, have done a repair from the installation routine, no avail. All my current documents are mostly curves, text, some Lens and some Extrudes. If anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it but I think for the time being, I'm going to save all my X6 files back to X5 and stick with the previous version.
TIA,
Kilobravo

Hello kilogbravo; Just a thought, but you may want to check and see if there is a up date for the Bios. And a question are you running a out of the box Windows or a off the shelf computer co. ver.?
George
TSG: I always build my own desktop machines and this is an OEM box copy of W7Pro 64. As for the mobo BIOS, it's been in the machine with X5 running fine for as long as X5 has been out. Today though, after saving all my current X6 files in X5 format, when I started opening and editing them, X5 STARTED crashing, too so obviously, I'm not a happy camper. The current plan is to uninstall both then only re-install X5 along with the SP's. Why Corel can't provide a stable application like Photoshop or Illustrator (which never crash on my system,) is beyond me and honestly, if Illustrator was even close to as good as X5, I'd say adios to Corel for good. Unfortunately, Illustrator still lags far behind.
George: Appreciate the feedback and I certainly wish I could say I've only had one X6 crash. Worse, now X5 is crashing regularly even after uninstalling both and re-installing only X5, SP3, and HF4. Running an SFC on Windoze now but doubt it'll find anything. After that, a full malware scan.
However, it just occurred to me that all the X5 files I've been opening and editing since the re-install are all former X6 files saved in X5 format. So, I'll go back to some known X5 files now and see if I can get it to crash.
Thanks again and if I find out anything, I'll pass it along here.
No help, just commiseration. Your posts have me quaking in my boots. Headed off to back up my x5 backups separately so they're not overwritten by x6.
Harry: No page numbering, plus SFC found nothing wrong and no malware after a thorough scan however..
- I trimmed my installed fonts down from about 400 to 300 which substantially improved the sluggishness of X5 and..
- I've been working on a new file created from an X5 template now for over an hour and NO CRASHES..yet. <fingers crossed>
So, it MAY have been too many fonts, can't say for sure. I'll report back after I test it some more and if I still don't see any crashes, I'll install X6 and have another look.
Thanks for the suggestion though..

Update: Unfortunately not only have not found the problem but the situation is worse in that both X5 and X6 are crashing regularly.
I uninstalled both X5 and X6 then only re-installed X5. The first thing I noticed was that SPLWOW64.EXE (print spooler aux file for 32-bit apps running on 54-bit OS,) was apparently hanging up as I was finding it in the "wait chain" of the Windoze Resource Monitor process watcher. Googled that error until I was blue in the face and couldn't find any specifically relevant problems with Corel apps.
Then I thought it might be the printer drivers so I removed them completely via printmanagement.msc but no help, X5 kept crashing and here are multiple "problem signatures" from those crashes:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: CorelDRW.exe Application Version: 15.2.0.695 Application Timestamp: 4e52a655 Fault Module Name: CRLCLR.dll Fault Module Version: 15.2.0.695 Fault Module Timestamp: 4e52aa45 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0002b0a6 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: CorelDRW.exe Application Version: 15.2.0.695 Application Timestamp: 4e52a655 Fault Module Name: unknown Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: ed0de023 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033
There were multiples of each of these two, by the way.
I then ran three more SFC /scannow's and Windoze said all was well every time.
I then decided to do a minimal re-install of X6, no other apps and unfortunately, X6 started crashing almost immediately and during various operations, i.e., saving a file, clicking on another page, copying to the clipboard, etc.
So, I am out of answers and it sure would be nice if a tech from Corel would read this and offer some advice..(no offense to those non-Corel folks who have kindly offered suggestions so far. Needless to say, I'm very frustrated and upset that I'm not getting some much-needed work done.
One rather important point I forgot to mention is, I get the exact same crashes on my 6-month old Dell Lattitude i7 notebook running X6 on the same files. So, I'd day it's unlikely that it's a machine-specific problem. Both are running Win7 64 Pro with 8gigs of memory and both have SSD boot drives.
