On my Desktop I use a custom icon for CDSG X6 (original version is similar to X5 and sometimes causes visual confusion).
But I have not figured out how to customize the icon on the Taskbar.
I really would appreciate any clues on how to proceed.
Thanks in advance.

From my brief testing, you can't change the icon of the default shortcut, BUT you can change the icon of a newly created short cut.
Navigate to the Draw Programs64 folder using Windows Explorer (assuming you're using the 64 bit version of X6), then right-click the CorelDRW.exe file and choose "Create shortcut." Place the new shortcut on your Desktop. Right-click that new item, choose Properties, and then from the Shortcut tab, you can make changes. You can then place the edited shortcut on your taskbar (or anywhere else you want it). Will this process accomplish what you want?
Hope it helps.
Workaround: I did fix it in taskbar.
That's not how I wish it, but temporarily while the program is running or minimized.
Hi,
Maybe I was not clear, but I'll try to explain again:
1. Changing an icon is not the problem, because I know how to do a new one (see the colorful balloon that I use for the X6 version).
2. The main issue is how to make the new created shortcut is established on the taskbar.
3. That's probably not a problem of CorelDRAW itself, but Windows.
4. I can work around this issue by fixing the new icon on the taskbar, but that's not what I want, because when I minimize CorelDRAW, the icon shown in taskbar is the original (white pencil on light green background).
5. With that there will be 2 icons on taskbar: the balloon icon that I created, plus the original icon.
What I wish: when CorelDRAW X6 is minimized, the taskbar keeps ONLY the new icon that I created (balloon color).
This is not a fundamental question of "life or death," just a whim of mine to avoid confusion with the icon of the X5 (very similar to X6 original icon), when this is also minimized.
Thank you all for wasting your time.
EDIT: (To Patti: Thanks for video. I also have Icon FX app).
Silvio I don't think it's a Windows thing, because all the other programs will let you change the Icon.
My Thoughts George
Hi George
You can CHANGE icon by this way:
1. Go to "C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5\Programs\CorelDRW.exe"
2. Select program you wish (*.exe), right click and choose "Send to > Desktop > Create shortcut".
3. Once done, you are allowed do change icon. See pic. below:
Hello Silvio; I want what ever you are giving your computer to dirk, It's starting to studier I couldn't read a thing.
George I Think Hic, Hic
Silvio,
As you have discovered already, you can only change the desktop icon.
My point was that you canNOT change the icons for the Taskbar unless you can figure out how to extract the icons from the CorelDRW.exe file and then somehow save the .exe file back again. CD uses this cache of various sized icons depending on where it is (such as the Taskbar). There is more going on with this .exe file than just the icons.
There are tutorials out on the Web for using a software called ResourceHacker or Microangelo to accomplish what you are after -- but still no guarantee that it will work. I changed all those green icons in X5 to a nice turquoise color and even packaged it as an .exe, but it would only see the first image in my new file. I gave up trying when working with X5.
If you discover the secret let us know!Patti
