ok, finally went to install and update X6 via the internet. what a drag/problem I knew this would be... so here goes.
Installed the intial X6 fine, got email for 90 days tech support etc..I guess it activated and sent serial to my account/corel. ..went to update to 6.1...seemed to install fine... seemed to see something about getting a STANDARD membership. So figured..ok...going great... well.... went to install 6.2 and the problem started.
now it says I don't have a level of membership or something? cannot install 6.2 or the hotfix after.
I will contact customer support when I get a moment, but wondering if anybody knows why this is happening. such a drag jumping through hoops just to UPDATE my software. I don't care about the extra MEMBER features...I want the FIXES...which should install if member status is FINE or NOT FINE.
I might just stick with X5 as it is working fine...i.e. doesn't BOMB when UPDATING TEXT of prior version files, new way of powerclip annoyance etc.
I have the same problem as timd1971: Brand new install of X6 bought from Amazon.co.uk. Full package with manual etc. Installed OK, registered fine, update 6.1 installed too. Now I can't install 6.2 because it's 'unable to verify account ...' I note that the online Icon in the bottom right of the X6 main screen is green but with an orange dot. Clicking here gives the same message. My account details are correct so what is going on here?
It shouldn't be this difficult to obtain bug fixes but experience over many years (all the way back to Draw! 3 has taught me that Corel are particularly bad at providing customer support. Just try going online now and finding a link on their website to email a person who can take responsibility for this. Draw 5! often saved files wiping all the data they contained in the process. I was told by tech support in those days to wait for the release of Draw 6! and buy it. Not good enough! Not being able to install bug fixes isn't good enough either. Probably another Class Action coming up Corel. get it sorted!
good luck. you won't get much help from Corel, or from here from that matter. you'll get remarks to rub it in your face basically. (i.e. you should have bought it directly from corel at full price, tough crap dummy)
you probably got scammed like I did. After round and round with tech support etc, nobody would help, basically tough crap and buy it from us or from someone on their reputable list.
I understand now that MOST (and their is a LOT) are scammers out there, but they could have given me some sort of deal or something to keep a "permanent" customer... so now I use Adobe Illustrator CS6 MAINLY now and old versions of CorelDraw as I have to still use CD for things.
They really could have worked with me, but they are not very bright and lost several sales of licenses which went to Adobe.
What really did it is another user here I talked to was also scammed, but the "right" person at CorelDraw gave them a OFFER they couldn't refuse and it worked out for that person. (probably HALF PRICE) I obviously got the "WRONG" person (Aleksys) to communicate with and they decided to JUST END the tech support ticket after deciding they really didn't have to deal with this. Well, as stated before, they lost several licenses to adobe because of that.
Honestly, not really sure how Corel stays in business when up against Adobe. You would think they would go out of their way to try to keep a customer or gain one? The only software going for them is CorelDraw and Painter. But Photoshop does pretty much and more than Painter nowadays. Illustrator- self explanatory.

I mean, they don't get a single dime when we buy pirated copies from these scammers, so why then should they give away half of the legal copy we buy? I think it is a nice gesture if they do, but we can not demand, or even be angry at them if they don't.If we buy illegal copies (even though in good faith), we have to pay. Sounds fair to me.
Like I said, I do understand your frustration and I would probably react the same way, but think about it.Corel must act the way they do. Only way to stop piracy is to make users aware that these illegal copies are worthless. Then that market will die (a bit naive, I know).
in this case, it's about keeping or gaining a customer. sometimes in the world of business, you have to "eat it" in order to do so. (markup is so high anyways, so the business doesn't really lose anything anyways) in the long run, Corel would have easily recouped whatever they think they wouldn't have received anyways by future upgrades, references, purchases, etc. in my business over the years, I have had to practice this to keep or gain clients...and it works. in corel's case... what the hell are they even LOSING anyways by not doing this? NOTHING. NOT ONE THING. what? the tiny cost of the dvd, case and case inserts? really? either they sell it or they don't. in my case they didn't... Adobe did.
not going to argue about this until blue in the head... the majority here have a set view on this because they bought a legit license and do not have this problem.... thing is Corel could have handled this much better than they did with me... they want to give another user with the SAME EXACT bootleg problem I did 50% discount, then so be it... they gained one customer (who may have bought 1 license), and LOST another customer that needed to buy multiple business licenses. So I may have lost with the bootleg I bought from someone on Ebay that had a 100% feedback rating, but really Corel lost by not offering any sort of help KNOWING FULL WELL this is something that happens quite frequently in their line of work.
Yes, of course, I won't ever buy software on Ebay again, nor Amazon, (just in case same crap there too).... one wouldn't expect people to sell bootlegged software so blatantly on Ebay without one ounce of fear of the FEDs knocking on their door. but they do...and obviously get away with it, which it still goes on. I am NOT the only one scammed...many others and still going on. Corel could benefit from that... but they don't.
Hello timd1971; My question is WHY Corel isn't going after the dead beats on eBay, I think if a few got hung out to dry the rest would run and stop selling the stolen programs. I bet that the people are selling more than just Corel and Windows, and if some of the Co. got together and went after them it would have to help. I think I would put a add on eBay to let people know about the stolen software, and where they can get a legal copy. Or maybe put out a add campaign letting people know that ver. has to be upgraded and it won't happen with a stolen copy.
My Thoughts George
Corel does trawl over ebay looking for pirated software....the ads come down and go up with different user name in the space of an hour...it's just horrible.
T.
Hello Tony; For me it's good to know that Corel is trying to do something with the eBay crooks. I blame eBay itself as much as the sellers. You would think the law would help, but I'm sure it's a hard thing to keep up with. The new update system must help or we wouldn't be seeing so many complaints on the forum, and the more the word gets out about it the better it'll bet. I would like to see Corel extend the years that you could update, maybe starting at the year that it was harder to upgrade a stolen copy, and adding to it each year. ( A lot of people ( like myself ) don't need to update to every new ver. if there are not changes in the program to help there type of work.
Thanks, and Best Regards, George
