I recently had to replace a dead hard drive in my computer. Among many other programs I reinstalled CorelDraw X6. About a week ago I ran into a problem with Windows explorer. In the course of solving it I did a repair on my Windows XP installation. Now neither CorelDraw nor Photopaint will open. I get the splash screen and then the user interface, but before the "What's New" dialog box opens the programs hang.
After trying a restart of the computer to no effect I decided to uninstall the X6 Graphics Suite and reinstall it. That's when I discovered it won't run the uninstall. I then tried just reinstalling and that wouldn't work either. I don't get an error message, just a blank space on the screen and a button on the taskbar.
In desperation I decided to go back to X5, only to find that it won't install either.
I'd REALLY rather not reformat the hard drive and start all over. Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?
You have done the windows repair, which would have been my first suggestion.
Is there any possibility there might be a virus on your system? Running http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/malware-removal.aspx would stand a good chance of finding and fixing it.
I'd suggest you next install the latest .net 4.x and then run the registry checker of cCleaner. and then try reinstalling X6 again.
Well, it didn't work. The scan with the malicious software removal tool didn't find anything, which didn't surprise me since CorelDraw and PhotoPaint seem to be the only programs that aren't working. I downloaded and installed .net 4 and then tried to install CCleaner, only to find that it crashed during install. I also tried reinstalling Corel Graphics Suite. No luck.
I guess I'll have to do a fresh reinstallation of WIndows and start all over.
I can only think of one further suggestion -- the windows file checker using the command sfc /scannow
There' s more information if you need it at http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm
Hello,
I am not sure about exact location of this folder in XP. But probably it should be this...
C:\Documents & Settings\<user account>\Application Data\Corel
Over here you'll see a folder named "CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6". Try renaming this folder to something else. Do not delete this folder just yet. After renaming, try to launch Draw. If it loads fine, then you can safely delete the renamed folder. When you rename the folder, a fresh folder with default settings will be created.
I'm afraid that didn't work either.
