"Typography" is the Art & Science about writing characters, and specially for Graphic Design and/or computers. That means a very wide of answers. First of all, typography can be done by hand, as it was traced for years, it's not only a digital concept. The "digital typography" are computer files for show different kind and size of fonts on each computer. In other words, the "typogrphic families" such as Garamond, Helvetica, Futura, etc were created manually, then translated to metallic frames, and only since a few years translated to compuer language.
There're some kind of computer fonts: the most widely used are TrueType, Type1 and OpenType. The same typography can be made with each kind of font, in other words, you can have "Garamond" as TrueType, as Type1 and as Opentype, each will have different file extensions, such as "garamond.ttf", "garamond.pfb" and "garamond, otf". It's the same font, but with different features.
Each font can have different weight, such as Thin, Light, UltraLight, Normal, Bold, Extrabold, UltraBlack, etc Not all font has the same options. Some fonts has only one or two weight available.
And yes, you can draw and create typography using CorelDRAW. You should draw each charanter (letter, number, sign, etc) at A4 size and export each character as a new font, choosing if you want to create a TrueType, Type1, etc, and also if it's a letter o sign. But there're other programs that only creates typography such as Fontographer, FontLab, Fontstruct, FontForge, Robofont, and a lot of more.
