Drop shadow resolution setting for export

I have a file that is created to size at about 10x7 feet with multiple drop shadows underneath vectors. Bitmaps need to be 100dpi at final size for a vinyl wall application.

Does changing the rendering resolution under Page size in Options automatically change the resolution of the drop shadows? Attempts to export to PDF fails and an EPS export generates a 15GB file. I thought about trying to rasterize the whole thing as a JPG at 100dpi but I'm afraid the vectors might be jagged. How do I get this out of here?!!!

separate the drop shadows and convert each to grayscale bitmap at 100dpi. Then create your pdf.

Thanks Mek and Myron. Converting the drop shadows to 100 dpi bitmaps resulted in a 281K PDF instead of multi GBs. And now I understand what Rendering Resolution does.

I think I would convert all shadows and objects, except the text and 3D-effects, to one single bitmap, and keep text and 3D effect as vector objects.
Use the same color model for the bitmap as for the rest of the document and avoid transparency if not absolutely necessary, since it may cause problems with some RIPs.

For shadows you may use a very low resolution but since you also convert some vector objects to bitmap it generally requires a higher resolution. 100 dpi should probably be enough though for the size you are going to print.

Work on a copy of the file so you don't destroy the original vector objects.
