We use CD X6 with all Updates on Windows 7 (with all Updates). Every time we try to open a *.cdr File CD opens with Loading Application..... After a minute the following error apears There was a problem sending the command to the program. Repair installation does not work. Compatibilty Settings do not work. A higher Timeout HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\CorelDRAW\16.0\Draw\Application Preferences\Options - Advanced/AppResponseTimeout do not work. File Association ist OK.

That means that the program need more time to open. If it's slow yo can check your system for improve speed: uninstall unused fonts (no more than 400 installed fonmts), clear temp files, etc
If that doesn't fix the problem, the best workaround is to open the program first, then open the file
