Printing Issue

I made an artwork in corel draw X6 with all text and object as Black( K=100) , when I printed it on HP Laserjet 1020 printer , the print came out greyish one NOT jet black. when I tried the similar drawing in Microsoft Word 2007 the print was jetblack. Any help to resolve the issue?

Your MS Word "jet black" is because Word is using an RGB mix of 0,0,0. Which would be a rich black in CMYK...not 100% K. Likely your printer doesn't like producing 100% K as it would be on a press.

Depending on what your design is, change the black values from 100% K to a mix of say 60,40,40,100. Don't do so on small text, but on larger text and objects it can be good to do. But like I mentioned, it depends on the design.

In addition to what Mike said, above, I would add this:

If your printer is an inkjet or laser that is a normal office/home PC attached or general office networked printer, then your print driver is more than likely looking at any and all color information being sent to it as RGB colors and the print driver itself will convert the RGB values to the necessary CMYK for its hardware.

So, if the printer is your local printer, attached to your PC or internal network, I would change the CMYK colors to RGB in your documents. If you are using a commercial printing service, then you may want to stay with CMYK colors.

As you pointed out, you are using an HP Laserjet 1020, therefore, the driver for that printer is looking at only RGB input and if your document is in CMYK, all color documents may be different than that you see on your monitor.
