Is there a way I could easily put the center of rotation in the center of a circle??

Hi again! Lauren here :)

As I am going towards the bigger generations in the family tree that I am making, I have been having a hard time placing the center of rotation to the center of a circle since the circle gets bigger and bigger after each generation. It so time consuming to drag the center of rotation specially in the bigger circles that I exhaustively did it on the early generations. I was wondering if there's a shortcut for that like when I click the center of rotation and hit a shortcut, it would automatically place in the center of a circle.

PS: I one by one snap every box with distinct texts inside with it in the path of a circle every generation. These boxes are the persons in that particular generation. I could not just easily duplicate the boxes along the path since it would take another time to copy and paste the distinct texts that corresponds to each box that's why I snap it one by one.

Can somebody help please???

Hello Lauren,

I have a VBA macro that you could try. I've tested it in X7, but I don't have X6 to try.

The macro is used in this way:

Select only the circle.

Click "Get coordinates from center of selection." Numbers for X and Y position should now show the center of the selected shape.

Select only the shape for which you wish to move the center of rotation. This selection can be a group.

Click "Set rotation center of selection to these coordinates."

Another way: enable "snbap to objects" (Alt+Z), select the circle and drag a guideline to the center. a message will show you when you're close to the center and you'll notice the "magnetic" snap to the center. Repeat the same with another guide (horizontal and vertical), then you can place the center of rotation on the center, even if you have several objects

If you are doing this job many times - aligning a single shape (or a group) to the top of the circle, then moving the center of rotation to the center of the circle - then you could use this code instead. Again, I've tested it in X7, but not in anything older.

If the item to be positioned is a box with text (or more things), then group them together before running this.

First, select this item to be positioned.

Shift-click to add the circle to the selection. The status bar should show that two objects are selected.

Run the macro.

The code repositions the item to the "top" of the circle, then changes the center of rotation.

The item that was repositioned will be selected when the macro is done.

You can can then do any of the following:

Set the angle of rotation using the Property bar.

Rotate (with our without creating copies) using the Rotate tab of the Transformations docker.

Click on it to activate the rotate/skew handles, then rotate it to where you want it using those handles.

When rotating it this way, you can also press the space bar while rotating to make one or more copies.
