Anybody else left-handed? Currently you can not customize a toolbar if the mouse is setup for a left-handed person. I'd like to be able to customize a toolbar without having to switch my mouse to right-handed.
Very interesting.
I'm left handed, but I've been using mice since they were first invented, which was long before anybody thought about configuring them differently for left handers. So, I use a right handed mouse in my left hand, and there's no problem.
But I had always assumed that when you configure a mouse as left handed, the only difference is that the left button generates a right mouse click and the right button generates a left mouse click.
The obvious question then is why would that change anything else? I don't think CorelDraw will even know that you have switched the mouse buttons, Windows should just send a mouse click, and CorelDraw should process it same as the opposite button on a right handed mouse.
I'm not sure I understand the problem either.Like Harry says; if you switch the mouse buttons, there shouldn't be any problem using it left handed in Draw.Please give us some more details.
And for the record: Even though I'm left handed too, I use a right handed mouse in my right hand, I always have and it has always (~ 25 years) felt natural for some reason.There are a couple of benefits too: I can still use the basic shortcuts (Ctrl+X, C, V, S and so on) without problems and once when I got a touch of "mouse arm" some years ago, I could continue to work using my left hand and a pen tablet.
After checking, it appears you are right. It isn't possible to customize the toolbars if the mouse buttons are swapped. Very strange.
There is one thing you can try: There's a very useful scripting tool called AutoHotkey.With a very simple script you can swap the buttons, and if you put the script in Autostart, you'll never even notice it's there.The code is two simple lines
$RButton::LButton$LButton::RButton
and if you don't want to download AutoHotkey, I've attached an EXE that you can put in your Autostart folder.(Sorry, the file was too big to attach. If you're interested drop me an e-mail (click my name above) and I'll send it directly to you instead.)Not sure it works in all cases though. I tried it in Draw and it still doesn't seem to be possible to Alt+right drag (which is now "left drag") an icon to move it.If you go via the Options dialog instead (Options > Customizations > Commands) it works with the left (right ) mouse button.
A more sophisticated solution could be this little program. It is, if I understand it right, a whole program written in AutoHotkey code.I haven't tried it but it may be worth taking a look at.
I'm lefthanded too and use the "left" mouse. You know what? In Corel 8 (yes, I know, that's very old) you can customize the toolbar easily with a left-mouse. And in Corel X4 (I'm working with this version) I can't. Thanks to this forum I've been able to add an item to the toolbar at last.
But .... it is RIDICULOUS that Corel can't deal with a left-mouse. This is not the only degraded function in Corel since version 8, but I won't express my other frustrations about Corel here.
Anyway I'm happy to have found here a way to get the toolbar customized. Hooray for this forum.
OK,OK you guys bring lots of beer and come on by and I'll have yall righting right handed in no time. lol
