Hi. I'm making name badges, and working from templates someone else created. The old template (which I've been using for years, from CorelDraw 9) has the "name" and "job title" lines of text as Combined Objects, which makes it easier to skip from one line to the next while typesetting.
The new template does not have these objects combined, but when I combine them, the "job title" line of text actually changes size!! It still shows as the correct font in the correct size, but is visibly reduced in width and height. Also, Break Text Apart does NOT then revert the changed line back to its original size.
I have tried to Group them instead, but then I'm not able to edit the text at all. I've tried Weld, which isn't what I want to do. Combine works fine except it changes the font :\
I need to Combine these two lines of text for efficient typesetting, but I also need for them to be the correct size. Any help here?
Thanks!
This ^^^^ is the original, with both lines of text selected. Original document made in CDR9 but converted to X7 format.
This ^^^ is the un-combined sample from the "new" doc created in X7 I believe. I can't select both lines of text, which makes data entry inefficient as I can't arrow down to the next line, I must use the mouse. However, this is the way the text needs to look (exactly).
And this is what it does when I Combine these two lines of text (this is the "new" document/template). I can select both and I can "arrow down" to the 2nd line... BUT it squishes the text on the 2nd line (BRANCH MANAGER) when I perform the Combine operation. I can't have this happening!
I have learned that it does go back to original dimensions when I un-do the Combine operation (Ctrl+Z or Undo) but not when I Break Text Apart.
Any more help? :) Thanks!
The best guess I can make, without having the v9 CDR file, is that the v9 example has both lines in a single text object.
To achieve the same in the X7 version:
You should now have the two lines in a single text object.
Incidentally, if you are doing a lot of these regularly, you should probably look at print merge. This would let you prepare the names as a plain text CSV file, something like
name, jobtitleBill Stickers,Advertising ManagerPenny Dropped, AccountantLucy Lastic, Wardrobe MistressTanya Hyde,Head of Corporate PunishmentThen in the merge document you create the template something like
and your names are merged into the template using the fonts, sizes and spacing of the template.
