Where can we complain

Hi Everybody,
-- ONCE AGAIN.   --- Missing thumbnails have been a chronic problem for some of us for the last ten years. It's still going on after ten years despite X7.4 and a promise to convene the staff to look into it.
--   I could not see CPT, CDR, or CMX thumbnails in Windows Explorer after installing X7.4. Mystic Thumbs cured the CDR thumbnails problem. I cured the CPT and CMX problem by sending X7 to the garbage can and reinstalling X6.
--    Mystic Thumbs makes thumbnails for over one hundred file types. That includes Corel's PaintShopPro's "pspimage" files. They have said that they can do the same for CPT files. They only require information on the CPT file structure from Corel.
-- Gerard has refused point blank to send information to Mystic Thumbs about Corel 's CDGS file structures. The reason, "It's proprietary."   Yet everyone else in the universe publishes information on their file structures. That includes Corel's PaintShopPro's "pspimage" image format.
-- Gerard has been completely irrational about this problem for the last ten years. Would you know who to complain to at Corel in order to get past Gerard.

Phil,

I'm getting totally sick and tired of your rantings about the shell extension -- but more particularly the fact that you refuse to co-operate with trying to get your thumbnails working in the manner they are intended to work (and in the manner that they do work for most people).

Mystic thumbs is not needed to get CDR thumbnails working and mystic thumbs is not capable of showing CPT thumbnails. Gerard has already said that Corel will not provide Mystic Thumbs the information, so please stop ranting about it. It's proprietary information and Corel is under no obligation to provide it to anybody.

Your problem is almost certainly caused either by mystic thumbs or by something else on your machine. Maybe in trying to falsely configure it to display CPT thumbnails, you have broken the registry connection that would otherwise allow the proper Corel shell extension to do its job.

If you seriously want working CPT thumbnails, then you need to stop blaming Corel for your problems and start by temporarily uninstalling mystic thumbs so we can eliminate it as the reason for the problem and see if we can get your thumbnails working as Corel intended. Then reinstall MT and see if we can do it without breaking the Corel shell extension.

Continually bleating about the problem is not going to solve it. So please, let's hear no more about CPT and MT. Its not going to happen, so you might as well get on with it.

Within a few months, Microsoft presented Windows 10. That may be the solution to the problem ... or it may aggravate it even more.

Gerard is not Corel. Who took the decision not to provide this information was Corel, not Gerard. Gerard has a very important position but is not the only decision-maker. On the other side, seems you don't know who's Gerard, and how important it has been the contribution of Gerard in these years. You should remember that the error existed before Gerard arrived, even in the golden age of Cowpland (and for that matter, Cowpland not seek a solution nor provided information to any other company). Maybe you should meet Tom Berquist, the Corel CEO, and you should invite him a coffee or a beer to discuss your ideas about how to lead a company. I think you live closer to Tom than me, but if one day you meet, would like to be present (if you convince Tom to pay my flight, I invite the you coffee or beer ...)

I think you're pointing your cannons in the wrong direction

Hi Harry and Ariel,
I'm also sick and tired of the problem. It's been going on for over ten years -- apparently back to the days of Dr. Cowpland. Another thread on the subject has just been re-opened . About a month ago, there was a lengthy thread on the subject. It was only cured for CDR thumbnails by Mystic Thumbs. I'm hardly the only one who is complaining about the problem. Are you going to silence everybody who complains about it.

I didn't blame Gerard for the problem. He just happened to be the highest ranking member of Corel who responded to my posts. After similar complaints about PaintShopPro, Mystic Thumbs was apparently given enough information to create thumbnails for pspimage. At some level, someone at Corel is willing to publish file construction information.

Corel also published a clean up program for PaintShopPro. Why not one for CDGS.

It's hard to believe that it is not a CDGS Shell Extension problem. I never had any problems with image thumbnails for:
1. The last 7 versions of PaintShopPro.
2. Photoshop CS5, Photoshop version 7, and a few versions of Photoshop Elements
3. Painter 2015, 9, and 10.
4. Perfect Effects
5. EasyHDR and PhotoMatix.
6. A handful of minor programs for making a photo look like a painting.

I'm not interested in Connect. I already have three other file viewers -- Photoshop Bridge, PaintShopPro's organizer (Manage), and ACDSee. I could easily have obtained SST thumbnails or Sage thumbnails as well. However, I have 75,000 images organized in Windows Explorer. I'm not starting all over again with another file viewer

Neither am I going to touch the registry.

PS: OK. Let's change the subject. What did you think of my scholarly posts on Subtractive Color and RGB color space.
I'm going to add another scholarly post on why the 4:2:2 compression sub-format is superior to the 4:4:4 sub-format for JPEG compression. How can that be when 4:2:2 discards 33% of the pixels. I'll post the explanation as soon as the resident genius (wife) explains it to me.

A third party app is not the solution as the fixes offered in this forum DO solve the problem. You cannot expect Corel to support a third party solution when their file types are propriety. (as opposed to JPG, TIF, BMP, etc. )

Hi David,
Sorry. I don't quite agree. The fixes in this forum included Mystic Thumbs as the major fixer-upper.

A person at Corel is blocking the public release of information on the CPT file format. However, another person at Corel released public information on Corel's PaintShopPro's pspimge file format. Why not the CPT file format as well.

I might add that Adobe released public information on their propriety PSD format on day zero. Why not CPT.

I feel that Corel should finally get this fixed after ten years. They could start by publishing a clean-up application as was done by Corel's PaintShopPro's team. Sharon Potts got my PhotoPaint X6 working by showing me how to delete left over files from X5. They were scattered around in some hidden folders.

I believe that Sharon Potts can clean this up in a few days if she is assigned the task. Working Shell Extensions were created for all the programs I listed in my last post. They don't seem to be a big deal.
