why won't .cdr files preview as a thumbnail?

I had this problem in Windows 10 and it was as simple as going into the Windows settings, then System then default apps and then scrolling to the bottom of the list and clicking the restore to Microsoft recommended defaults. If that doesn't work for you, this method and some others are explained at the link below.

First thing to try is to right click a CDR, choose Open with... and then locate and select CorelDRAW in appropriate (=last installed) version.
Don't forget to check 'Always use this app to open .cdr files' before you click OK.

Thank you. I fixed it by using option 1 in the info found with the following link and it did indeed involve file associations in Windows 10. I reset to the Windows defaults and my thumbnails and previews of .CDR files came back
